Does it matter if you get a Green, Red or Camo UTV for deer hunting? I thought deer where color blind? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Deer are color blind but I have heard and seen testimony that they can see blue. We had a big buck about to cross a field, got half way and stopped, stared at the other side where my brothers blue fourwheeler was, and turned around. Later we found out they can see blue and it all makes sense. From a strictly deer hunting perspective, Camo would be best. Even though they cant see the color red, the will be able to easily pick out a red fourwheeler because its the same shade throughout. Image a woods with all the different shades of gray, and then Bam! a blob of solid gray. We always get red though because we drive on roads and things, and camo or green fourwheelers are harder for other drivers to pick out. We would rather be safer on roads then have 2 deer a year not spot our fourwheeler. They will still be able to see/smell/hear and color fourwheeler if you leave it out in the open. Get whatever color you like best for all the reasons you are considering, then make sure to "Hide it" when you park it and you should be ok.
I think regarding the UV, they see in the UV as a very bright white. I don't think they see the color per se'. If you have access to a UV light such as used in fly tying UV hardening epoxy's shine a light on something white, especially if it has been cleaned with detergent with brighteners which most detergents have and you will be shocked.
Pretty sure deer see in shades of grey and yellow... Either way the color doesn't much matter, don't park so close to your stand and you will be fine. That said, if buying new just go ahead and get green or camo in the first place...
