so when i bought my brute x, i had the intention of shooting it until it blows up or my hands wear the alumn riser thin or the bow turns into dust. reason being, if you ever stumble into a hunter that had a rifle/knife/ misc equipment that theyve had for +- a billion years and they remember using it when they were knee high to a grass hopper, that kinda thing inspires me. ive met guys with little dots all over the stocks of 30-30's/ rifle and each mark stands for a deer/game they took, same for whatever hunter desires to use as a remembrance of something theyve bagged in the field. i thought about using a paint marker to make a dot on my riser to keep a list going i guess this isnt really a tech talk post, but its something i see few bowhunters do. then again, theres next to no bowhunters here in my ( city )
I still use my very first bow i bought back in 2006. Ive killed 10 deer with it so far. Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2
Keep the strings changed and the bearings lubed(if required) or it will... disintegrate in your hands. I can tell you, that really hurts but I get and appreciate your post. I don't quite get the "gotta have a new bow each year" mentality. Mine is an '04 Hoyt... no idea how many deer I have killed with it.
I still have my first bow that ive killed 30+ deer with, wont ever get rid of it either... i need to put new strings and cabels on it. i'd like ot get a deer with it this season.
I did replace my original bow, it was a browning bushmaster. I had it for over 20 years, but I wanted to upgrade to more let off and a single cam. I will never replace the mathews I upgraded too.
I had a Hoyt fast flight XL for about 10 years...why? i liked even though i bought a new bow about every year. As a kid I shot some wooden riser stoger and browning till they fell apart, I mean that literally..splintered limbs, and the cam assembly coming throw the limb ends. I purchased a PSE Carroll Marauder in 1990 and used it until I purchased my Bowtech Tomkat in 2010. I never changed the string on that old PSE (I know; not safe) and killed a lot of deer with it. Love my Bowtech, too, but haven't yet christened it with a kill.
I plan on using the buck knife I got for my 12th birthday forever. Gutted many a deer with it so far. Still use a .22 of my grandfathers from 1920-30's to shoot groundhogs and squirrels with. This gun went through a fire in the 70's and probably has had tens of thousands of cheap ammo put through it. I can still hit a squirrel at 50 yards with it any day of the week.
i have yet to find a bow that i truely love. i bought a parker wilfire xp when i was 16 bought a used bowtech tribute when i was 18 and now im 20 and about to buy a ballistic hopefully i got it right with the mission.
I love and understand the idea. I shoot a 2005 Bowtech Defender and really love it but might have to change because of an eye dominance issue. I've had my 870 for what seems like forever. I can't see me hunting with any other gun.
