I just bought a primos can and primos buck roar and rattle bag. For people who had success with these, how and when did you use it?

I have hunted for a very long time but never used any calls before so I have no idea what to do. Only after hearing so many reviews rants and raves about these products I decided to jump on the band wagon.

Primarily during the rut and pre-rut is when calls will be most effective. That of course, varies depending on where you live. That being said I have had luck with grunting and snort wheeze throughout the year, you just have to learn the appropriate time to use them. A fawn bleat or fawn in distress can be poison on early season does if you are looking to fill the freezer. Rattling and and estrous bleats I will save until the bucks begin to get aggressive and the chase phase is on.

The only thing I would add is that the can will bring in early season does.

I call, alot. I've had my best luck rattling during late October through mid November. Grunts work as well, but I cant remember ever having a deer respond to a can call.

In late October I like to use the can. It makes it sound like a doe came into heat early and will have them cruising looking for her.

i use the can first then work 2 different grunt calls to give the effect of 2 bucks talking smack or looking for the same hot doe (the can) and then i rattle to sound like there fighting for that doe. this should peek the intrest of another buck to cone see whats going on.i do this every 20-30 mins some times i wait longer longer. add a buck bomb doe in estrust and you got yourself a game

I've never had any luck with a can or with rattling. The grunt tube can be deadly though. I'm not much for blind calling, but I've called several bucks in that otherwise wouldn't have come past my stand. Once you get their attention with the grunt, stop calling. If they become disinterested and turn their head to keep walking, hit them again with the call. Usually it's the second call that does it for me

I am 15 and this is my first year bowhunting. I will be hunting on public land. Is it effective to call during early season? How Often should I call?

I would call as sparingly as possible during the early season, and would avoid blind calling all together. If you can see a doe off in the distance, give a quick tip of the bleet can and watch for her reaction. Deer arent as vocal in the early season so most of their vocalizations are to locate members of the heard or if they're in distress. Bucks are the same way, they tend not to vocalize much until the rut, but will occasionally meet up with other bucks to size each other up. A couple quick, non-aggressive grunt might peak their interest. As for rattling, dominance within bachelor groups or certain ranges is established pretty early on, and fighting doesn't intensify until the pre-rut/rut, most of it is just short bouts of sparring. I personally don't like to rattle during the early season because I feel like it forces bucks into a brawl that they may not want anything to do with. I save it for the rut.

This is good. I have both those calls but not the rattle thing.
