Ok so i purchased a Vest style harness from my uncle... I saw that it had a DVD and thought that would have instructions on how to use the safety harness... I was wrong...

Does anyone have one of these and have input on how to properly use it??

I get the general Idea but there are a few extra items included that I have NO idea what they do and I want to make sure that I have proper knowledge of it before climbing a tree :)

The instruction seem good i was only gonna add to keep 2 knifes on you at all times while stand hunting. i keep 1 on my hip and 1 on my boot just incase something happens and I cant reach one i always have another option to cut myself down

That knife could be your saving grace.. I always have the wife carry a knife clipped to her chest pocket (between her,, yea).. This way, she always can reach a knife should she need it... Not in a backpack at the top of the tree when she has fallen, not in her back pocket, etc... Your hands are real close to your chest and can always reach that part of your body.. Great advise..

If this is the black strap puzzle that comes with the big game tree stands I would toss it and buy a conventional real safety vest with seatbelt type buckles. It's not worth the frustration of putting on let alone ending up in a wheel chair vs. buying an easy to use vest style.

As long as you know you can get to that ONE knife... Thats plenty.. But we have back ups of everything else we carry.. An extra knife aint that much more weight

Carrying a whistle around your neck is a good idea also. Most of us besides a few hunt ground that is near or adjacent to an area where other people might be. If you find yourself hanging from the tree and unable to cut yourself down then the whistle is a lot better than trying to yell for 30 minutes straight.

The knife is a good idea, you should have one anyway when you need to gut your deer. But what if you are dangling from 25' up? you wanna cut yourself down right away? Or maybe try the whistle for a bit to see if another hunter or passerby might find you?

The Vest its self is easy to use... I figured out how to use that part... The confusing part for me was there were a few extra pieces of ropes/straps included in the set that I had no idea what they were for or how to use them but that video that was linked earlier showed me what they are for so I am good to roll now :)
