I am going to hunting a three acre green field starting in January. It is only possible for me to get in one tree around the whole field. Is it ok to use a buck target with a large hole in the side as a decoy to bring in deer closer. I am planning on hunting a couple times without a decoy to get an idea of movement but if they aren't in range it's either use a buck target or switch to rifle. Thanks. I've used 3d targets in the past and had deer come to it. I used a doe decoy and put a little tinks on it and had a big mature doe go crazy trying to run her off. It was a blast to watch. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I'm the last person to give advice on decoys. I was just giving you my experience. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I've thought about it too. Have had a little buck in my backyard stiff-legging toward my target with ears laid back, so I think it would work.
Make sure to spray it down with some scent killer. I would imagine that it reaks of human odor (to a deer). Think about it, you touch it every time you remove a arrow from it. I wonder if it would do you more harm than good? Disclosure: I have never used a deer decoy before.
January is actually the rut in Alabama. And I haven't shot it but 2/3 times since the summer cause the hole in it lets my arrow go through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
