I am wanting to get into bow hunting and looking for my first bow and I have a buddy that is selling a Mathews Bow that he has had for about 8 years. He doesn't remember what the style is but is looking to sell it pretty cheap. What are some thoughts on it?

Well Mathews makes good, quality bows. It's pretty hard to give too much of an opinion without model and condition though.

It could be a variety of Mathews bows. Here's a link to their discontinued products, you should be able to figure out which one it is there.

Any of them would be fantastic as a startup bow, if the price is right.

You should probably plan on spending about $100 on top of the purchase price for a new quality string and cable depending on when he last replaced them.

The model should be inscribed on the grip....I think.

My brother did the same thing. He got a used feathermax (Probably about 5-8 years old as well) I shoot a reflex (hoyt) but i liked his matthews very much. I agree with the other reply, you will need to drop an extra 100.00 or so for a tune, strings, ect, ect, to get it where it needs to be for your use.

    good luck
