I'm new to this and found a used bear showdown on Craigslist for cheap. The reviews were good so I decided to buy it, However, I need to find a sight, arrow rest and of course arrows for it now. I have always seen whisker biscuits in bows I have shot previously so I'm thinking medium sized for an arrow rest. I assume sights are not created equal based on the price range I see. What is the most economical decent sight? And arrows... No idea. Thanks Mountaineer
If you want a good dependable sight I would go with a HHA. They have different versions for different price ranges/budgets. As for a rest. A whisker biscuit is a good rest, especially if your new to archery. You will chose which size biscuit based on which arrows you select.
You're bow is similar to mine, I use a tru glo 5 pin storm sight, whisker biscuit, tru glo release and am most likely next going to get ics bowhunter arrows next. Are you going to be hunting or just target shooting? You're draw weight will help determine the spine your arrows will need.
Also, your bow is an older model but don't let anyone make you think it isn't as good. You don't need very expensive stuff to drive tacks, or consistently harvest deer. My bow is a bear element and my cousin has harvested deer and turkeys every year with it until it became mine. Now Its my turn to keep the tradition going and continue to harvest game. Good luck with your bow!
Thanks - draw weight is 70. I'm planning on doing target shooting but also hunting in the fall. if I like it as much as I think I will I'll likely upgrade my bow before deer season.
You don't need to spend a lot to set it up. $100 will get you a decent 3 or 4 pin sight and a WB or a QAD hunter drop away. Or you could buy a $350 dollar sight and a $150 rest.....your call. I just have a truglo 4 pin and a QAD LD. A lot of people like trophy ridges sights for the larger housing. Guess we should ask how much you want to spend?
I bought a cheaper bow because I want to try it out - so I don't want to spend a ton on it. So I'm looking for the best bang for my buck and am not opposed tied buying used either. thx
midwayusa have perfectly good tru glow sights for 20-30 bucks and have those on two of my bows and they work great. Personally I never liked the whisker biscuit but for the same price of about 50 bucks you can get a very useable QAD hunter rest, I have two of those on bows as well. So for about 75 bucks you can be putting game on the deck. I have a more expensive sight and the better QAD rest on my new bow but thos older bows shoot great and I would go that route again.
I forgot to address arrows in the previous post. I would go with the blackout envy arrows at Bass Pro for about 60 bucks a dozen. I've got an earlier version I've been using since 2007 and when I do my part they are in the 2 inch bull on my target with broadheads at 30 and 40 yards. you can spend 2 or 3 times that but the critters won't tell the difference. Use the money saved to get a good release. good luck with it.
