NEWS-Two American soldiers were killed Thursday in a shooting by an Afghan soldier and a literacy teacher at a joint base in southern Afghanistan. Thursday's killings raised to six the number of Americans killed in less than two weeks amid heightened tensions over the Feb. 20 burning of Korans and other Islamic texts that had been dumped in a garbage pit at Bagram Air Field near Kabul. More than 30 Afghans also were killed in six days of violent riots that broke out after the incident.

President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials apologized and said the burning was an accident. His statement has failed to quell the anger, although Muslim protests over the burnings have ebbed this week.

My Thoughts-One of my trips overseas was a working port in Masirah Island in Oman, where it was nothing but a landing strip for US Military to use and with a couple of communal bathrooms. and the building they used to search your luggage for contra ban.

Some of the contra ban confiscated was Bibles it didn't matter what type of Bible they considered them contra ban and took them. So what did they do with the bibles you ask? Well in that Communal bathroom they didn't have toilet paper but it was a bucket hung from the wall with shredded paper in it for wiping your backside.

Upon inspection of that paper it turned out to be those confiscated Bibles. When Military Members raised concern and anger about it. the Omani People got angry and threaten to shut down the air strip. And this was becoming a deepening problem because at the same time.

The USS Ranger (CV 61) caught fire Arabian Gulf, killing 6 and injuring 35 and the ship used up all of their available AFFF to get the fire under control and the FIRE FIGHTING FOAM had to be flown there to save the ship.

I served on board the USS San Jose AFS 7 (decommissioned) the supply ship for the carrier group and volunteer for the Air Head detachment conducted by our Ship.

In any case I've seen the Bible treated in similar fashion in several places in the Middle-East by these Peaceful Muslims and yet no American went on a killing spree over the lost of their Bibles, but I find it very hypocritical of a culture of people willing to kill someone over a Koran burning especially an accidental one. Especially a peaceful people Where they use bibles as toilet paper and have no care of doing so.

Sure my experience happened back in 1980's and 90's, but how far have we progressed since then? And those that would ask for our help then stab us in the back. Have receded back in there caves of civilized thinking.

Whom I'm I to judge, I've got more, but like I said whom I'm I to judge.....

    My inital questions:
    1. Who dumped the islamic texts and korans there? and
    2. Who saw it and told the afghanis about it?

Sounds almost like a sting operation sponsored and ran by either the Taliban or AlQueda. What better way to try and win back the hearts and minds of these people?

    Two quick things:

When you are in another country you should not be surprised when you are asked to adhere to their customs & beliefs. Even if you are there on a humanitarian or military mission. You are in their country.

Second. Lumping these particual 'Peace Loving Muslims' together as all Muslims is a grave mistake. Look at all the factions within our 'Peace Loving Christians'.....

Not exactly sure the of the point you were trying to make, but you are right in saying whom am I to judge.

    Good point Fitz...

I don't blame all Muslims for this actions, but it seems some are like follow the crowd or be left behind and murdered.

My Wife family was practicing Muslim faith back in early 80's in Cleveland Ohio. When her father found the religion to radical. Her father broke from the group going back to his core beliefs.

The night he left the faith, they started receiving threats. Later in the week their family home was shot up with a bullet grazing the stomach of her then 15 year old sister.

I do keep an open mind, and I know people will freak out over a joke of the Queen of England but have no problem making jokes of our heads of state. To me it's no big deal. I just find insane to kill another person of a religious book destruction by accident than when a people or a group uses one to wipe their butts and say no harm done intentionally.

But I do respect your opinion and further thoughts that you may add.
