Hey everyone i liver/gut shot a deer last night, and let him sit for 6 hours and then started slowly following the trail, he crossed the river and we seen him standing in the middle. He looked hurt didnt seem to even care we where there he looked in alot of pain. i went back out this morning and i could find anywhere sign for sure where he crossed the river, however about 40 yards in the bush i found a bright orange pile in the snow, it looked like it someone literally dumped a bottle of bright orange gatorade in the snow. Looked nothing like urine, i even smelt it and it had a strong scent, yet again nothign like urine? could this be him?

I honestly don't think so… maybe if you took a picture and posted it, i could tell better, this doesn't sound like a deer but it could be, i gunshot one this last saturday, he only ran 50 yds. and i found him right away. good luck, hope you find your deer!

Were there any tracks with it? Bright orange would scream urine rather than bile, but possible gut shot I'd look into bile as well.

A true liver shot, you're going to get blood regardless. Would be hard for both punctures to clog up and the deer urinate.

I went back and did more tracking with a few pals, and we all agreed it was just urine.

He might not have made it out of the brook. Did you look downstream?
