Quick question for you individuals that steadily hunt upland game in addition to bow hunt that own dogs. I have an extremely healthy/fit Brittany that is a natural hunter. He has gone through some serious training her in MI with some of the best trainers in the state. He turned 3 in May and hasn't had any problems and is on his game when it comes to working fields/obeying commands. As of the last 2 months, he is eating a ton of grass. Something that he never did before that time. I took him to the Vet on Monday and they didn't find anything wrong with him. They did mention that grass is not bad for dogs and quite a few of them do it. It could mean that they are hungry, constipated, have an upset stomach, etc.

Anyone else experienced this before? Any remedies that helped if your dog's stomach was upset, etc? I don't have a ton of concern at the moment, but I imagine that if it continues it could lead to digestive issues.

I've got a German Wirehaired Pointer that seems to eat grass from time to time regardless of what food we give him. Started out with Purina Proplan Focus, then went to a brand of Iams, and are now giving him Purina Proplan focus for dogs 7+ with chicken and rice. I think it's just something to expect from a dog. I don't know that it would lead to digestive issues. In one end, out the other. I've also noticed that sometimes he isn't necessarily eating the grass, but pulling dew off of it as well.

Our Vizsla will eat grass from time to time never seems to bother her. But Her brother (my father inlaws dog) will eat grass then throw up. He does it all the time and just goes about his business.

    I wouldn't worry to much

My English springer spaniel will eat grass from time to time, I wouldn't really call it eating as much as just pulling it and chomping on it as it falls out of his mouth. I've watched him a few times and it's like he searches for a certain type of grass to chew on, don't have a clue why he does it he's a healthy dog just likes the grass I guess lol.

My chocolate lab eats grass all the time. I was told, like you, that it was probably from constipation.

When they eat grass it usually means they have a upset stomach or constipation. If yours just started doing it, did you change his diet.

We have started to introduce a new kind of food into his diet, yes. Thanks for the recommendation!

Changing a dogs normal food intake can mess with them badly.

I would recommend mixing the foods together starting mostly with old food and slowly increasing the proportion to the new food

Yep. When I switch from puppy food to adult I will gradually change it in about a 2-4week period depending how they are taking it.
