Ive been using a GL2 for the last season and a half, and want to upgrade to an HD cam. Something that is easier to upload to a computer, and also less noisy as the GL2 is. Can someone recommend any cameras that are good in low light, zoom, manual focus ring etc, and for a decent price? I know there is plenty out there just so many to choose from! Do the new HD headless cameras make a bit of noise when you turn them on like the GL2 does?? Im guessing no? Pretty sure I had a nice Maine black bear hear the camera turn on tonight while he was coming in... Thanks!
I know alot of guys this season are going with the Canon XA20 camera. Depending on your budget think it retails for about $2200. The version prior to this was the XA10. Someone has one forsale in the classifieds section right now.
I went from an XH-A1 (also had significant start up noise) to the new XA20. No regrets so far after about 4 weeks of playing with the camera. While it is too early to say that this will be the ideal hunting camera, I really believe that this camera will be great in the woods, field, and the water for all types of hunting. I would give it a serious look if you are in the market for a new camera. If the $2200 is out of budget, then look at the HG30, basically the same camera without the handle, XLR inputs, and IR recording. Or the HG20 and XA10 are still great options as well for quite a bit less. You will give up several upgrades that the XA20 offers but this may or may not matter for your type of recording. All are great cameras. And "yes" they are virtually silent at start up and during all phases of operation.
Has any of you guys gone from a 20x optical zoom down to a 10x? Not sure how well I'd like doing that if I bought a g20 or xa10..
