i did something like that too. I made a metal stand for my bag target to hang on. it is pretty nice. i just got some 1x1 square metal tubing and welder up. its a lot nicer having a bag in the air a couple feet i think.....
Thanks guys! :D Crick, I don't remember asking for CAD drawings, but it doesn't surprise me, LOL. Of course I just ended up scribbling something down on a napkin one day at lunch and went to it with just that. My normal modus operandi... Glad you give your seal of approval... after seeing your mad metal construction skills on your trailer, I take that as a high compliment!
I'm not supposed to , Matt .. but I squeeze out a few dozen 12 yard shots a day to keep the muscles goin ...... I don't THINK any off my neighbors will call the police I do miss being able to shot out to 40 yards in my yard, tho
To build something similar (assuming you own none of the materail already) Sheet of plywood $13.00 2 2x4's $7.00 1 10' 4x4 $8.00 1/3 square of shingles (one pacakage) $20.00 Nails $3.00 Screws $3.00 $54.00
Like I mentioned, I already had the shingles (and I know Scott was just trying to help those who may want to do something similar)... But in that same vein, before you go buy a pack of shingles, many hardware/lumber stores have packs that are busted or left over from previous customers that they'll sell for next to nothing and might save you $15 or so off that price.
That looks sweet!!! I am thinking of something... I wonder if there is a way you could incorporate a spot for the Yellow Jacket Block target? I will one day build such a thing but I am thinking somewhere along the lines of somehow boxing it in with swinging doors/locks so it could be left there year round out of the weather. I would imagine you could hang the bag a tad higher and then the block would fit directly underneath? Either way it looks sweet!!
Would probably cost more the way ebayers try to stick the "screws" to you in shipping charges! :D Right on! The shingles really are the biggest expense of the project. I did however forget to add one bag of redimix at $4.00. Looks good Greg
Believe it or not, I actually thought of the same thing -- of making the whole project taller and building a shelf along the bottom with a ledge at the back to keep the broadhead target from sliding off the back... Obviously, I ultimately decided against it and just went with the simpler project -- though it really wouldn't have added that much to it. I guess this turned out big enough as it is and I just didn't want TOO much of a monstrosity out there. I've got a brand-new Yellowjacket broadhead target that I just bought last weekend (my neighbor contributed the field-point target you see pictured, since he gets to shoot in my yard all he wants as well). I figure I'll just keep it inside and haul it out when I do my broadhead tuning and such, as I shoot field points 95% of the time before, and even after, I get my bow broadhead tuned. No need to needlessly beat up a target as I've done in years' past when I know my FPs and broadheads are hitting the exact same spot.
Oh! Forgot about the $9 GE 12" fluorescent battery-powered lamp up under the front of the roof too. :D
Im a plumber so I make my target holders with left over PVC. They work well but are not even close to as cool as that.
Looking good! I take it you don't miss much looking at the scenery behind your target. Looks like it would be pretty tough finding an arrow.
