Made it 5 days... bought a pack of smokes. Made it 4 days... bought another pack of smokes. you can kind of see where this is going... made it 3 days... said screw it... We were running long hours spraying and I was having a hard time staying alert driving the semi. Well that is my excuse. Bought a cartoon of smokes. bought another cartoon of smokes. gonna try quitting again after the fourth. Brother-in-law and his wife are showing up for the 4th and like to party. Will be no quitting until they leave. Our hours should not be so bad now until harvest. I've got to try again or I will cave during harvest and not try anymore. Do or die so to speak. I have been eating alot better and drinking a lot of water and a lot less Dew. Dropped 8 pounds !! Exercise... work has been a killer laterly so not much beside work. Thinking I am getting enough exercise at work to do some good. Shoveled out a bin bottom, pulled both feeder housings off the combines, gutted one out and replaced with all new ( heavy ) parts, pulled the rotor out in the other one. Running water truck dragging hoses, loading boxes of chemical and climbing in and out of the reefer trailer from 6 in the morning until 10 or 11 at night. Doing a lot of lifting and welding. Our days are hectic and there is a lot of lifting and climbing/ physical labor. Every day is a new advanture so you are constantly doing different things. Tonight... Britney and I went on a 4 mile bike ride. That went very good and the knees took it well. All gravel roads so it was a good work out. Planning on doing that every other night so I can try and get some weight lifting in. Scouting will be starting soon so we will get some hiking in soon. Just got to quit the smokes !! When I didn't smoke... I didn't drink Dew or any pop nor even missed it. When I smoke then I drink Dew. Got to have it then !! It is crazy or stupid however you look at it. Just gotta beat the smoking. Tim
You should try reading Allen Carr's The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I understand how tough it is to quit. I read the book and I have been smoke free since October 2010. I was worried about starting back up after having a few drinks but Nope, not 1 smoke since OCT. 2010. Good Luck and keep pushing, you will overcome it. Dee
I've taken the 6 week classes before and didn't smoke the whole six weeks only to cave the day after the class was done. Not sure the book would help but it wouldn't hurt to look into it. Thanks !! Glad you beat it and hope to say the same thing someday. Tim
We're pulling for you on the smokes, Tim. Sounds like plenty of exercise to me and good on changing the diet. Good luck!
Stay after it, Tim!!! One day you will look at a cig and tell it, "You will NOT run my life!" .... it'll come.... praying for you!
Keep at it! Sounds like you are making progress. Progress is good. Wish I had advice on quitting the smokes. Good luck!
TJF, I commend you for your efforts ! Any effort to try to stop smoking is worthwhile,.....however, you are only going to quit when our mind has made a deceision that you are 110% ready and want to really quit. Quitting is easy, a lot of people have done it hundreds of times, including me, but until you rerach that point where you say enough is enough, it is still hard. I quit in March of 2002, woke up one morning, reached for that cig and said the hell with it, went out a got 3 weeks of patches and after those 3 weeks, I never looked back. At the price of smokes today, look at all the money you will be saving. Keep at it, we all know you can do it !!!
Sounds like a lot of excuses to convince yourself about why you cant quit right now. You need to jump that hurdle first. Forget the excuses about why you cant quit now and focus on the reasons why you should. Seriously, do you want to live? Should be a pretty easy decision. Throw the carton of cigs away today and just do it. Good luck!!
Congrats on the weight loss Tim and good luck with the smokes. I smoked cigars for 30 years, quit 3 years ago, gained 65lb! My mistake was replacing smokes with sugar (hard candy) should have been grabing the water when had an urge. Still working on the weight. Good luck.
I smoke for almost 20 yearsi was up to 2 packs a day. Right before my first daughter was born i bought my last pack have it away and have not smoked since. She is 5 now. If you want to do it you will Good luck Sent from my LG-E739 using Tapatalk 2
My father died from Smoking as he turned 50 tomorrow I will turn 50, My mother died from Breast Cancer last Year. Although she didn't smoke the doctors attributed it to my fathers constant smoking around her..... My brother whom is a non smoker is suffering from lung cancer and I had surgery to remove cancerous tumors and I'm doing fine for now and I pray I stay cancer free. so if you don't think your smoking isn't harming anyone think again and do as Christine said... Quit being a pansy and quit already. If not for you for your family. Don't let your habit inadvertently harm others that you say you love.
Although I am smoking again, I have manged to quit twice for 1 year each time. I found the gum to be the best tool. It satisfies the addiction and the habit. It tasted nasty, which let me know it had nicotine and also kept me from chewing it too long. Just limit the chewing to as often as you were smoking or less.
