Here it is, its official !!! Dear ROBERT D MARING, Congratulations! The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is notifying you that you were successful in drawing a 2010 - 2011 hunting license for the following hunt code(s): ELK-2-256. Information specific to your hunt code can be found in the current 2010 - 2011 New Mexico Big Game Rules and Information booklet. The booklet can be found online at the Department website http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us. Again, congratulations and good luck on your hunt!
Congratulations Rob. I just got my email as well. I will be in the Gila unit 16E sep 19-24. A couple of weeks ago, I also drew a deer tag colorado unit 76 for sep 1-24. Looks like I will be busy this September. While I have already been working on it, more exercise and less eating for me. I am pumped!
Mike, Congrats to you, I hope all is well...I was hopeful that I would catch you somehow on the way thru. I haven't been on here very much, but glad to run into you again. Rob
Congrats on the tag, should be a great hunt!! I drew 52.... Can't believe start of the season is less than 3 months away!
I told My friend who drew the same tag as me, the same thing. He wasn't in a hurry to wish the summer away...me on the other hand, could:D
Now if I can fill that tag, it will then be my first name. PS...and we will have some elk burgs for the 3rd GTG Amazing though that the number of applications were down about 30%. Not sure why other than the fact New Mexico started requesting tag fees upfront. Last year it cost $12 to apply. It is without a doubt a must-apply-for state.
In my opinion there is no question that the fact that you had to pay the entire cost of the tag upfront ($760 or thereabouts for a high demand or quality unit), coupled with a continued struggling economy and high unemployment limited the number of applicants. Did it make a difference. Obviously from a mathematical standpoint it had to........I drew into what historically is a very tough unit (16E)to draw into. A buddy of mine and his son drew into another one just as tough (16A). However, the other three groups that I know and have checked with all struck out. Go figure.
Well, maybe we can grab that lunch/dinner as we come thru. I know that we may have the time and sure we will be running the same highway.
