Silva vs Belfort... Thoughts? I highly doubt Silva pounces around the ring with Belfort. He's shown he can take a 5 round beating.... and win. But I'll venture to guess Vitor hits a little harder than Sonnen. :D Griffen and Franklin, that could go either way, but it's seems Forest's chin is getting a little weak. I'm giving the edge to Franklin. Bayder and Jones should be the fight of the Night, I'd say it's who gets caught first, I'm guessing Jones will win this one. And upcoming in April... GSP and Jake Sheilds, Jake is good, bud what has he really done to earn a fight at GSP? I mean he looked pretty sloppy his first fight in the UFC and he's had what... one more since then? I could be wrong, I just think GSP need to jump on up to 185 and take out Silva. :D Your input is welcome :D
Very intriguing matchup. If Vitor's chin can handle an exchange or two ...he may be wearing the belt Sat night. Personally, I hope he beats Silva. Forest will try to take it to the ground. He needs too or he might get knocked out by Rich like Chuck did. I dont know if Bader can handle the sheer athleticism of Jones. Again a very interesting matchup though. GSP and Shields, on the feet Georges jab and boxing skills are tough to deal with. Shields is not good on his feet yet will have a TOUGH time taking GSP DOWN.. nor do I think GSP will game plan to spend much time on the ground with a guy like Shields that is so good off of his back. George lacks big power but is so strict about following a game plan that minus catching GSP in a sub, I just don't see Shields having much of a chance. Shields had better make his cut a lot better than his last fight, because Georges cardio in the late rounds will be tough to match. GSP by dec.
I was in Brazil about ten years ago and was training when my coach/friend asked me if I wanted to go "roll" with Vitor Belfort and train a bit. I said "yes!". A day later I had food poisoning from drinking the water in Rio and could not make it over to train. I was bummed. My coach said he slapped a clean rear naked choke on Vitor during training but Belfort was so strong that he actually pulled my friend's arm right from of his neck. He was absolutely amazed by Vitor's strength.
This is pretty much how I see it. On the GSP idea, I dont think there is anybody for Silvia to fight until they fight. In real weight, I beleive GSP is really close to the 185 mark. The only thing I dont know about the GSP / Silvia fight, is that the reach advantage issue. But I dob believe it would be on heck of a fight to see.
Brett, dang it! too bad about the sickness, imagine getting in their with Vitor. Our wrestling coach here at my school knows Randy Couture and has worked with him in the gym. Anyway, just would have been really cool if you could have "rolled" with Vitor! He is a beast!
It would have been a lot of fun. I was so pissed I got really sick over in Brazil. I was a brand new blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was over there to compete in the world championships. I lost over ten pounds in three days and could NOT eat. I stepped onto the mat and gave it my best against a guy that was 15 lbs bigger than me and the best in the local Gracie academy. I throw him hard and took it to him right away but my strength could not hold up for five minutes and he eventually beat me by 1 point. I was bummed. Oh well. I have trained with Olympians, world bjj champions, UFC fighters, etc. It was a lot of fun back then, almost makes me wish I could do it all over again and really go for it. But my family comes first, always will. Although I am starting to get in darn good shape again.....ughhhh I hate my competitive self. Back to the subject...if Vitor is in shape he is very hard to take down. We shall see.
Brett did you ever fight in any Pro MMA fights? How many years did you put into training MMA related disciplines.. was it mostly Jits? Nevertheless, you have an impressive resume of MMA .. hahaha, I'd feel sorry for the sap that tried grabbing onto a guy like you! LOL
I never had any pro MMA fights, just four amateur fights over the years. I could have chosen to fight every other month and do all that stuff but I had just gotten married and had my first child 18 months after I got married. It was hard to juggle a new family, MMA, and a full time job. My style was based in BJJ but I trained in everything over the years. My coach was a BJJ blackbelt but was also a world class MMA coach. We were fighters in our gym, period. My coach was a fighter himself and we became really good friends over the years. I trained for 5-6 years in MMA/BJJ. Prior to that over other parts of my life I put in another 5-6 years of traditional martial arts training. Just as I was starting to really become strong in everything I did on the mat my son was born. At that point I started to feel like I was selfish towards my passion and slowly began to fade away from MMA. I felt an obligation to my children to be at home and not at the gym every night after work, 5-6 days a week. I just loved to train. Here is my coach with Vitor...
Brett, that would have been SO cool. I always love(d) competing in any discipline with someone who could raise my game; to do it with someone that's literally world-class would have just been incredible. As far as the picks above, I pretty much agree with everything already said... though I don't think Jake could even do that much with Georges even if he DID get him to the ground -- which I don't think he can. I've never been impressed at ALL with Jake's ground n' pound, and I doubt GSP will be careless enough to be submitted. I too would love to see Vitor strap the belt around his waist. Anderson lost me as a fan forever during the Maia fight. Too many consecutive idiotic performances...
I am serioulsy considering making a return to the mat next year. I have some things going on job wise that will limit my time to train until next January. At that time I might bring my son over with me and start training a couple of times a week just to get a feel for what my body can do these days. I have two friends, both BJJ blackbelts that have opened schools close to my home. I will be 37 this year and I am considering trying to get back into fighting shape and be a 40 year old guy who gets in a fight or two just to test his metal. Gulp. Or I could just be happy to be alive and train...lol.
I am fairly new to this site overall, but cool to see fellow mma fans on here! I am a huge fan myself, and like some of you I train martial arts too. Haven't got into any mma competitions yet, mainly cause I train muay thai and love competing in it so much, plus hard to find time to train other disciplines wth a job in the real world, lol. but imo ufc 126 this weekend is best card ever! i love silva and i think belfort does have a decent chance to win, but i think its really only in the first 30 seconds. history has shown that he is so explosive in the beginning, but not much after that. if silva can weather that, he will overwhelm belfort with knees, kicks, etc etc. forrest/franklin is tough as you cant help but love em both. being from ohio i gotta go with franklin and id love to see him get a chance at the 205 belt. jones/bader is another tough one. both up and comers and whlie i think jones is more athletic and talented, bader has looked good recently and if he can take jones down and keep him there i think he has a chance to pull it off. his striking has improved too and i think im leaning toward bader. overall cant wait to watch!!!
I hope Silva loses, but I really don't see it happening. Not taking anything away from Vitor, the guy is a machine. Vitor did have a great fight against Franklin but he hasn't fought in a year and a half.
Do it!!! I am planning on joining a gym that my friend is involved in, I have wanted to train Muay Thai and BJJ for years. The owner is a second degree BB under Pedro Sauer who teaches in your neck of the woods. I figure it is about time I whipped my butt into shape and there are some incredible guys that train there to keep me motivated. Sometime in the next two weeks I am supposed to head over there to watch Jens Pulver spar and see the gym, little Evil is making a comeback and training hard in BJJ
I hope vitor knocks the dumb smerk off of silva's face!! I cant stand silva's arrogance.. Vitor seems like a cool dude.. I am rooting for bader too. Bones jones is right up there with anderson on the arrogant level.. Going for franklin too. Forest cant take a good strike anymore. Franklin will catch him with a good straight left and drop him!!
I am not sure if you guys know this but Belfort's sister was kidnapped in 2004 and held for ransom. Her remains were found a few years ago after some guy confessed to the murder. Now that is horrible. I am rooting for Vitor.
arrogance or confidence? hard not to express it when you are by far the best in the world. vitor is a cool dude, but has been talking smack leading up to the fight, something anderson does not do.
