I've always been a big fan of the players policing themselves. I love hockey. Seems Boston had some beat work to do, last night. Pay special attention @3:50 in.....(but, for heaven's sakes, don't miss anything before it). http://www.inflexwetrust.com/2011/02/04/video-nhl-3-fights-4-seconds-into-dallasboston-game/
This one rocked, DiPietro is gonna be out 6 weeks for his cheap hit and beat down. http://www.metatube.com/en/videos/48955/Brent-Johnson-KO-s-Rick-DiPietro-Goalie-Fight-Feb-2nd-2011/
I've always like watching Boston Hockey when I can..that video was awesome. @350 he def had that coming! No doubt..
So what brought on those @$$ kickings? Sorry for the dumb question, I know nothing about hockey. But the fights are fun to watch lol
I cant see this at work but was it the one punch fight? (Pitt and Islanders) Jas see if you can dig up the John Scott and Kevin Westgarth blood fight from this past November that was a good one.
I found it: ( I love the Blackhawks Ice Crew gal cleaning up the blood at the end) http://www.sportpost.com/video/view/Big+hockey+fight+Nov+27+2010++John+Scott+vs+Kevin+Westgarth
I think these planned fights are stupid. All you end up doing is getting one or two or three players in the penalty box and you hurt the team. It would be interesting to just for once see the game without all the macho crap. Just what in the hell did they do with 3 fights in 4 seconds to help the team win the game. And besides that, most of them have NO idea how to fight. If your intent is to REALLY whack a guy... then do it. Don't dance around 10 feet away with your hands up like you have a clue but really don't. It's almost like a grade school play ground. "Oh Yeah"... "Yeh".... "I'm going to hurt you". .... "Oh yeah..... Yeah". etc etc etc. It doesn't do a thing for the outcome of the game if you're in the penalty box. It's not "Unwritten Rules".... It's "Oh Yeah".
I LOVED THIS CRAP! Back when I played a little hockey and loved the Capitals...this was GREAT. Mario Lemieux knocked out after he was a total jerk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XDaCrCTrXM
I saw the fights on Sportscenter. It was awsome! Watching hockey for the fights is just like watching Nascar for the crashes.
When the gloves come off, David....they're BOTH going to the box. And, these guys are pro fighters. I have no idea where you get your info.. Fighting on skates is an artform. One of those guys has 12 fighting majors in +/- 16 games. If this was allowed in basketball and football.....you wouldn't have the taunting you have, today. You could probably do away with a ref. or two, also.
I've played a lot of hockey back in the day and I LOVE it!! It's the most self policing game in sports. Imagine hockey without the players policing themselves. The fastest game on two feet with blades and pucks that can travel over 100mph. It wouldnt' be pretty.
It's polite to make sure both parties involved are squared up and ready to fight. And like Jeff said it takes a few more seconds when you're standing on blades. And believe me there was a good reason for what happened. I have no idea what it was here, but there was definitely a reason for it.
The one was pretty obvious..... When the whistle blows a play dead (i.e. offsides).....you do NOT put a shot on goal....ever. At 3:50, the whistle blew 3 times.....and he still took a shot. That's automatic. Gretzky would've clocked him.
One of my friends from high school is Brian Sutherby's fiance'. He got his rear handed to him in the third fight. I may have to send her the link incase she missed it! lol
