MO changed things up a lot this year. In the past unlimited doe tags were available, now most counties have only one doe tag available for archery and I think one for all gun seasons (alternatives) but you can still take two bucks as long as the second one is after the firearms.
This guy was nice enough to post this a while back. I think it may be 601. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showth...ta-Twin-Cities-bowhunters?highlight=minnesota
Hunted a couple spots last year and did an MBRB hunt.. Didn't end up shooting any deer. Only saw a couple does on stand. Buddy of mine hunted some around this zone and shot 2 does, but he put in a lot of hours on stand. Looking at the MBRB harvest #'s the best area in the metro was NE over by shorewood and minnetonka. Might do some internet work to find any areas north of that to start there where it's a little less populated and a little more land.
theres enough hunters that farm and ownd all over the metro now that the ridiculus suburban is growing and desroying whitetail habitat. your best chance to hunt is joining the mn bowhunters association and hunting on those parks.
even if you try knocking there door. 100% of landownd farmers will say no. my family and i farm and hunt there and i tried knocking most of em in the other neighborhoods. they all say no.
The thing is people are so abundant in the area and every landowner knows 20 people through work, school, extended family, church etc. that wants to hunt and have asked them in the past. Also the big buck craze also keeps people from finding land cause everyone wants limited pressure on their "hit listers"
If the whitetail population was in trouble there would not be unlimited tags. Deer are very adaptable, they thrive in the suburbs.
The local feedmill I use gets 75% of it's sales to bird and deer feeders. There is no shortage of food or habitat.
The call them bird feeder bucks for a reason. :D The biggest bucks I've every seen during hunting season have been inside the city limits. Like Sota said the deer thrive in the suburbs, its generally safe for them.
Man I fell for yall. I can't imagine if I was limited to 1 or 2 deer a year. Down here in AL, it's 3 bucks and unlimited does. Depending on how friends do I may only take 2 or 3 does for me and my fam or I may end up taking 5 or 6 for friends and their families.
We make up for it in the size of the deer. If anything getting 1 shot makes you take nothing for granted, and be prepared.
