With this going to be a Federal attempt at a ban figured I'd post in a separate thread rather than one that is state specific. She was originally set to submit it today but its been pushed back to Thursday. She won't play fair and neither will the rest. Sen. Dianne Feinstein to introduce assault weapons ban on Thursday. Staff Reports Posted: 01/22/2013 11:50:16 AM PST Updated: 01/22/2013 11:52:37 AM PST Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, is set to introduce her bill to reinstate a federal assault weapons ban on Thursday. Feinstein announced her plans to introduce the ban after December's mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. President Barack Obama has also called for a ban on weapons that resemble military firearms. The bill will call for the prohibition of 120 specific weapons, magazines that can carry more than 10 cartridges and firearms that can accept a detachable magazine in addition to at least one other military-style feature. Feinstein's office has also revealed that while the bill would not mandate the confiscation of pre-ban weapons, it would require registration of any grandfathered weapons. Feinstein's bill promises to be at the center of one of the biggest political fights of 2013 and her bill will likely meet serious opposition in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
Looks like auto replies will be forthcoming. Received a few notices my emails had been received and will get a reply as the new accounts are set up. Got my first form letter from Rodney Davis Dear Mr. Xxxxx,(No my first name isn't Malcom) Thank you for contacting me regarding your concern about the issue of gun control. I appreciate hearing from constituents in my district. The Second Amendment of our United States Constitution establishes the right to keep and bear arms. I strongly support that right and will continue to do so in Congress. I am a member of the NRA and I have received the NRA's highest grade possible. I recognize that there are many valuable uses for firearms including hunting, sport, and safety. New gun proposals are not the fix-all answer, and in fact they often become a burden for law-abiding citizens. It is time that we recognize that the tragedies such as the one in Connecticut are a result of many factors. Our country needs to have a serious discussion about mental health issues and I look forward to having a voice in that conversation. As you know, President Obama formed a gun task force and released his recommendations on January 16th. Both the President and the 113th Congress need to take a common-sense approach to gun safety while continuing to balance and maintain the importance of our Constitutional rights. As this debate continues and should I have the opportunity to vote on this issue, I will keep your views in mind. Please let me know if my office can be of assistance to you in the future. Also, if you are facing a challenge with a federal agency or are planning a trip to our nation's capital and would like a tour, please call or visit my website at www.rodneydavis.house.gov. It is truly an honor to represent you. Sincerely, Rodney Davis Member of Congress
What exactly are they going to do about mental health? The GOP wants government out of healthcare. We don't have any money at most states which is why most state mental health facilities have closed.
Yeah, and what's funnier is thirteen minutes before that I received a notice he had received my email which appears to have come from a usable email, the form letter came from a no-reply address. It's an honor to represent you, just don't reply back
Here's what I want to know. When I had my lower receiver transferred from one FFL to another FFL before I picked it up. Is that gun and serial number now linked in my name with paperwork? I know when I bought my shotgun awhile back at a store going out of business it's serial number was on he receipt. Wondered about that then too. I filled out the form 4473 but didn't look at any of the transfer paperwork.
I have no ideas whats linked to what as far as registration right now..... But I do know registration will be the first step towards confiscation and also look for new taxes and fees to pay when your forced to " register" your firearms. Don't be surprise when they attach firearms owners ship or presence in a household towards your health insurance premiums also, all mandated by the federal government and for the greater good...
Whether we "want" our federal government in heathcare or not is a moot point. They are there and there to stay as the SC has already ruled that it doesn't violate the constitution. On a technicality mind you, but it is what it is. So if we can shell out out tax dollars for welfare, medicare, medicaid, WIC, I'm sure we could shuffle around some funds to bolster our mental health system. Not that it will make a difference. Any legislation that is passes will be purely political and will have absolutely zero impact on these type of situations. The only action I can think of that would make a bit of difference would be to make those easy targets "gun free zones" not such an easy target. Make the criminal second guess whether or not it would be safe for them to attack and complete their mission.
From Durbin Dear Mr. xxxxx: Thank you for contacting me about gun control measures in light of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. I appreciate hearing from you. I share with all Americans a profound sense of sorrow at the senseless act of violence committed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The nation mourns this event and many Americans wonder what can be done to prevent this type of tragedy in the future. I am an original cosponsor of the Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act, which would reinstate a ban on magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban on multi-round magazines expired along with the federal assault weapons ban in 2004. The majority of Americans and the majority of thoughtful gun owners and hunters agree that there must be reasonable limits on gun ownership and weapons. We must institute common-sense limits, such as barring those with a history of mental instability, those with a history of violent crime or who are subject to restraining orders, and those whose names have been placed on a terrorist watch list from owning weapons. “Straw” purchasers and gun dealers should face firm penalties. There should be limits on how many firearms may be purchased in one month. Those who own firearms that are within the reach of children should have protective locks on their weapons. The United States Supreme Court has raised questions about the Second Amendment and the protections and responsibilities under this Constitutional amendment. I plan to hold a Senate Judiciary Hearing in the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights Subcommittee to address this Constitutional question and how to forward on gun control. My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families in Newtown, Connecticut, as we remember the children and teachers who lost their lives. Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to keep in touch. Sincerely, Richard J. Durbin United States Senator
quick question regarding weapon registration... if I were to put together an AR-15 by ordering individual parts, would I be required to register it as a weapon at some point. And if so, during what part of the process would this happen.
F him and the horse he rode in on. It's too bad the state if IL is ruled by the idiots in Chicago. If Chicago could just fall into lake Michigan, it would be a pretty good state.
The stripped lower is considered the 'gun'. That is the part with the serial number that gets recorded on the 4473 along with your info and background check. Durbin sucks... but that's nothing new.
Wonder how Feinstein feels abou this, in her own state to boot Fontana School PD Purchases 14 AR-15 Assault Weapons To Protect Students http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2013...14-ar-15-assault-weapons-to-protect-students/
Missouri bill would be require any gun owner with a child in some schools to notify the school of firearms in the home. Also wants to make it a misdemeanor for not keeping your gun from being stolen, and if it is stolen and used in a violent crime a class D felony. Too many legislators trying to impress the White House. http://kplr11.com/2013/01/22/gun-owners-must-contact-schools-in-proposed-legislation/
