Damn, I voted early so I wouldn't miss the morning hunt. The buck I shot that day was like the guy I voted for, an old warrior with a pale colored face.

    True that again Sliv.

I'm not sure why Jeff even concluded to that.. but I have a guess.

And.. for the record.. I've never stated that education was a bad thing either... in fact I've ALWAYS argued for it.

    I'm just not naive.

It's clear that after reading much of this post.. many are just making generalizations about unions. Which is like making a generalization that guns kill people.. not the human behind it.

Whether its non-union or union... its a business run by people.. and some businesses are run smoothly.. others not. But I make no genralizations towards that.

I did however enjoy the posts several gave about union auto-workers.. and how poor their unions perfrom. But the counter to that would simply be the banking system and how poorly their non-union perfrorms. We bailed them college grads out too.

Like I said... I'm just not naive about the topic.

    Carry on.:)

You don't have to wonder, Mike. It's because you said these things.....

Nobody said they were smarter. What I've said is.....I play the hand that's dealt. The dealer says I can garner more wages, with a degree.

That's simply out of touch with today's society......right or wrong. It's not a matter of how you feel. It's a matter of how things ARE. Today's business environment says I AM entitled (or worthy) of greater wages (with a degree). It's simply the way it IS.

Again.....that's simply out of touch with reality.

I like it that the man operating on me is required to hold the proper licenses. Ditto the guy filling out my taxes and the guy diagnosing my auto woes. It's a really good way of weeding through potential service providers. And, it's widely accepted in today's working world.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. No problems, there. But if I'm looking at a contractor to do an addition to my home.......one of the criteria (ONE OF) I'll be looking at is......does he have a GC's license? Can he likely do the work without it? Likely. But all other things being equal, I'll take the licensed contractor. I don't see this as being different than most employers.

I always enjoyed posts like the ones above.

You know.. taking things 'out of context'. Reading into whats not there.

It belittles both the original poster and the new one... but mostly just the new one.

    Mike:

I didn't take something you said and spin it around.

    I quoted you.

I don't see anything out of context.

People with college degrees ON AVERAGE make more then people without them. This is a commonly known fact.

Why else would people go? lol

    No offense, Jim....

But you (and you're not alone) sound like someone who's been passed over........................and over.

    I don't blame you.....if you're bitter.

Think about what you're saying....."People who have college educations are worthless dregs.....and the guys without college educations are the real deal". That's certainly a different way of looking at it.

Maybe your trade doesn't require much in the noggin dept.. Does a guy running a drill press need a degree? Probably not.

    Ya... out of context.

Perhaps you should look up its meaning. The phrase is 'taken out of context'.

    And it works both ways.

Sometimes the best word to describe some (not all) non-union workers is..... brainwashed.

That was not directed towards you Duke FYI. But fair enough.

Some trades unions are actually very good. Some trades are just blind to reality. The trades that are blind to reality are the people that have been brainwashed by the union leadership. And yes, that is literaly what happens. They take the union leaderships words as the gospel and don't think for themselves. That is brainwashing anyway you look at it.

I work directly with unions at my job. I deal with it everyday. I can tell you first hand that I run into far more unhealthy unions that healthy unions.
