Late to the party. I work for a great company, make close to 6 figures, have awesome benefits and a member of our union. I would estimate that 95% of the employees don't have a college degree. I would also estimate that 80% of the 500+ workers that are employed at my company net over 50k a year. Do I believe that these workers would make this much money and have as great of benefits without the union??? Nope. There is positives and negatives to being a part of a union but in my situation the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

Sounds like you're in a great spot rednas! That's awesome!

Where I quoted you is key! In YOUR situation. Everyone should think about that before joining, or not....and make an educated decision.

But when a union rep gets a hold of an 18 year old kid right out of high school, or even summer help before he/she graduates....the positives will ALWAYS outweigh the negatives to that kid...after the first pay check especially.

In what way is a union NOT a "huge corporation"?

(We'll assume for this part of the discussion that most huge corporations are self-funded.......to keep it fair)

First off, I'll say this again for those that have comprehension probIems, I don't belong to a union and havent for the last 8 years. Lol.

And what would that be besides wanting a good future for my kids and grandchildern.
Didn't you have to go back and erase all your posts last time we had this discussion.

Just for the record let it be known that between the 2 of us, your the one that profits from doing business with the Chinese.

The one thing I think many here are missing is the perception of what work actually is, as a self employed business owner just showing up pays nadda, I am expected to produce a top quality product in a very specift time frame, no what ifs, or sick days or make believe holidays that only ______ employees seem to receive.
I am a very proud man and can say I earn a very fair days pay for the very most I can put in to every day.
Am I in demand, some times yes other days I fish, but the Browns will win a super bowl before I let a union boss run my life.

Its called pride, some men inherit money, others earn it, how rich do you wanna be?

My grandfather worked for a union for more then 40 years. He strapped his boots on and worked hard everyday. He did die a rich man, just take a look at his family.

He also started a credit union and was president of the board for many years. He invested his money wisely and died a rich man also.

The problem I have is how we tend to slam other groups, it's like me saying the people in the south are all lazy, except the members here.

Do union do dumb stuff, yes. Do businesses do dumb stuff, yes.

This is not a perfect world, so let us just work together.

Well Germ when you've been very much effected by the tough guy union mentality It don't always work out that way (getting along). I have no problem with unions really, It's the mentality of some of that I have a problem with.

Tonight on our local news the same union here In Minnesota as Wisconsin held a rally to show their support for their fellow brothers In Wisconsin. In their rally they were screaming and hollering saying this and that. Typical tough guy BS that so many have gotten sick of. Who do these people think they are? Makes me sick!!!

So how dose this work, every one comes on here bad mouthing the unions like the workers are so sorry thay are stealing money, then when your called on it you start back stroking and say I don't know what I'm talking about.
No one was on here bad mouthing Non union people.

I'll tell you this, I can't Fathom paying someone for sitting in a truck union or non union, I would have fired their butt on the spot!, You lost any creditability with me soon as you started with how sorry union workers in general are.

They just need a hug, and yes sometimes they say and do stupid stuff. Ever hear the NRA say dumb stuff? They do because loosing what the feel is a right makes people go nuts.

Look how nutting we get when hunting is attacked, I would be more worried if no one spoke up for the folks in Wisconsin.

Walker is just like any elected person, he was bought and paid for by someone. Until we elect people who are not bought we are screwed. The Dems are paid for also.

I guess if you look at it like the man that works his life building a company and a man that wins the lotto are equally rich then its perfectly clear to me.
Sorry to interfere with your little squabble.

Me, too. I'm also in favor of him producing a product that'll stand on its' own two feet (self-funding).

Caover that.....and I hope you make a killing (union or non-union).

Well, do you have a solution? Does any of your children have a Ph.D in optics? Have you been to many graduate schools in engineering? How many American kids did you see working on thier MS or Ph. D in optics? Its an extreme rarity that an american kid wants to go further in thier education.

If you want a good future for your children, don't encourage them to get in a organized labor, unless you want them to weld together technology from China and India, encourage them to get a MS or Ph. D in engineering so we are not forced to buy stuff from China. There is not one supplier in the US that would do what I needed.

If you don't have a solution to these problems, then you are part of the problem.

Stop buying their stuff, there I solved the problem.

I heard a guy say he can get an engineer from china at 1/3 the price as here. PHD for half the price, those jobs are next.
