I don't know, Ryan. But, you may be able to ask a bunch of unemployed Wisc. teachers that question in a short time. Maybe I'm not very business savvy. But, what's stopping an employer (ANY EMPLOYER) from just firing the lot of union members on strike? So.....who has the power?

    Why not union?

Maybe they don't like paying others to do nothing? Maybe they don't see the point of it? Maybe they don't like sucking off the government teat - to fund their union?

Unions have all the power? In a 15-20% unemployment economy? You sure about that?

I hope it keeps working out for you (personally).

    $42/hr. to do what?

I have no idea if that's supposed to be good or not. If you're happy....I'm happy for you.

While you can. Do you work 12 months out of the year and do you think that pension will be there if the Union ever collapses?

There are plenty of guys out there that can run machines for half of what you are making and it is a matter of time before they get work.

From all of this, I gather that I'm quite glad that I don't (and most likely will never) work in any industry that involves unions. I really don't understand the need for them.

People have the freedom to pick and choose certain jobs, correct? They are not forced to work in a coal mine or a steel plant. I can understand about unionizing on the safety issues, but to unionize to blackmail the taxpayers out of their hard earned money does not seem right philosophically or in practice. I would have to investigate into unions more to speak with more insight, so take it that I am just speaking philosophically. Or just PM me and tell me to shove it. :)

By the way, I believe in paying people a fair wage, but to pay people 60K-80K to do jobs that other people could do with minimal training/experience is not efficient and is a complete waste of tax payers dollars.

This is what I keep thinking. If you don't like the pay or benefits of your current job, find a new job.

No wonder large manufacturers are building plants over seas. I would too with all this union BS. Paying unskilled laborers $30-$40/hour? I don't think so.

    Joe:

I'm not anti-union. I have no reason to be.

I'm all for any worker (be he union or not) getting everything he can get....and ALL that the market will bear. So, I SINCERELY congratulate your union (and you, personally) on its' recent signings.

What we have in Wisc. (among many other places) is workers/unions seeking something the market can't (or won't) bear.

Thanks Jeff... I just cant understand are the people that are so hell bent against others making a decent wage and benefits! Only thing I can see it as Jealously??

What the Wisconsin market cant bear is Scott Walker, and wont.....cant wait till Jan 2012! The guy couldn't balance a Milwaukee County budget let alone a state budget! He is a puppet!

Didn't the voters vote him in......knowing full-well what he planned to do? Is this not the will of the people?

I'm having a hard time understanding differently.

Yeah....but when someone tells me Selma Hayek's a "dog", I need to know what their idea of a bombshell is.

    You know...for reference.

So, if you tell me Walker's a jackwagon.....but, Hoover was a patriarch of fiscal efficiency.....I'll know to just punt.
