Personally - I have never understood unions, everywhere I have been, if you worked hard, performed and did what the company expected (all non union organizations including a huge construction company in So Fl) you were rewarded.

It appears that you pay dues to the union to enable somebody who is not doing the work you are doing, to pay politicians to do favors that mostly benefit them. Or it protects mediocre performers from being fired, while the rest of the folks carry their load?

I prefer to work in an organization that rewards performance - and parses off the weak, tends to bring out the best in the organization. I know as a Marine, I have to be better, faster, smarter and work harder to get good paper so I can get promoted...worked so far for me. Slow and weak are parsed off quickly. If we had a union, it would seem that they would have some bargaining power to stay, and make the organization weaker.

    What am I missing?

Unions became what they were developed to fight. When they were formed, there was great need for them.
But soon the money and power made them businesses in themselves. Their main goal is to keep the dues coming in.
I won't start with my union stories. But I wouldn't shed a tear if they vanished tomorrow.

    Good post buckeye.

Never have been a union member myself. I have crossed a picket line. It was down right nuts when my dad and I crossed It In the milk truck. It was the milk plant that I haul milk to that went on strike. Threats were made to dad and I and the rest of the family. I'd cross It again In a heartbeat If they'd strike again but I'd probably send the rest of the family on a mini vacation. This brothership stuff gets real old and crazy with some of these unions and their members. It sure did with this particular one at the milk plant.

To answer your question Joe, no.

    Joe,

I know you are pro union anything. If the unions demanded massages for all workers after their shifts you would support that. I get that.

Just tell me how we can afford it all. The answer is we can't right now; no matter how much the union thinks it's members are entitled to.

Do you want this country to end up like Greece Joe? We are headed there. So, no matter what you and the union think is fair, we need to deal with reality. And yes, in the short term it may be painful.

We're going to get there unless we stop all the bleeding.
I see people like to point to a group and say their the problem, take their money. It's done by everyone on all sides. Are 130 million in tax cuts good right now? It depends if they can bring extra rev to cover the cost of the tax break. Or we need to cut the budget to pay for the tax cut. A tax cut or credit that increases a deficit is just spending.

If some supporting walker were against extra spending where were you when he passed 130 million in new spending?

    Germ,

The thing is that Walker is just getting started. This is not his only fix. In fact, this is mild in terms of what will he will propose in the future. Bank on it.

    He had to start somewhere.

I agree with what you are saying that some blame only one group.

It really is a shared blame Gary. And it has to change.

So is 130 million he just spent wise right now ? Said it before having them pay more for their benefits is fair.

    yeah, its brilliant...

keep getting more and more and then the govt goes bankrupt - and then the Fed comes in and bails out the excessive retirement packages that the unions have in place, but wait - the federal govt borrows .42 of every dollar it spends...cause %65 of the federal budget is entitlement spending...

    so when does it end?

    its a freaking ponzi scheme

If you are referring to 130 million in tax cuts as spending, that is wrong. It would be 130 million that is not being confiscated from citizens who I would bet are already paying plenty of taxes.

If you don't find a way to pay for the cuts or reduce the budget x amount what is then?

Look at the Bush tax cuts, they will cost your kids and my kids money in the future. Why because they were not paid for, nor was the budget reduced.

Same for Obama stimulus and Obama care. There is no extra money coming in to pay for them.

A lower % of a higher number trumps a higher % of a lower number. Period!

So what are the numbers for walkers tax cuts? What are the going to cost Wisconsin or what are they going to bring in?

The last tax cuts that brought in more money were Regans which took the bracket from 70 to 50. Before that it was JFK which took them from 90 to 70.

Best guess on Bushes cuts is around 1.5 trillion. So GW needed to cut his budget over his tenure that much. It did not happen.

Well said. The problem is that no politician has the balls to make the spending cuts.

    Nothing.

Fire their asses. Dissolve the unions. Hire new workers.

    Rock on.

It's not really a "striker's" market ....ifyaknowwhatimean. I can't believe the unions aren't smart enough to realize they have almost NO POWER in these times. Do you think there aren't enough people out of work.......that wouldn't love to have those jobs - at a fair wage?

    Please.

Fire their asses. Dissolve the unions. Hire new workers.
