So i was in my local ****s Sporting goods the other day looking at base layers. Why is UA so damn expensive? Is it really worth the money and keep you THAT much warmer than a standard pair of long johns? Am i missing something here lol?

The only way I'd get underarmor base layers would be if they were free, merino wool is where its at for base layers.

Personally I think UA makes good stuff for hot weather. I think their cold weather stuff is absolute garbage and a rip off.

They really are great. I personally have enough of them that I would only buy UA base layers if they came up on sale.

Honestly, junk. have a base layer from them, and its warm, but i have a lot more other clothes from them, and the stitches always come out of them. Ill be looking at sitka or another brand this off season. possibly a scent blocker one.

I'm telling you guys. Check out Filson. It's high end stuff but you will never have to buy it again.

I've got all UA hunting stuff. I've liked it a lot so far, for my outwear I sat in pretty decent rainfall then snow last Friday for about 3.5-4 hours and when I got home everything underneath was dry.

As far as the baselayer go I've only had then for this season and haven't got unbearably cold yet with really not much on. I wear the tops and bottoms them for bottom half only have my outer layer on top of that. For upper I've beem wearing base layer with a thin long sleeve shirt and a fleece pullover then outer jacket and that's it. Dont feel like I'm smothered in layers and have stayed pretty warm.

This has only been with their thin spandex like base layer haven't tried the heavier stuff. But so far I'm not disappointed with the money spent.

Thier are other base layers out there that cost less and do just as well if not better. Base layer of polor tech, polypropylene and fleece or wool is more than sufficient in temps to the twentys for all day sits. For me it's what works and what I can afford to get the job done. I have and continue to use thier product( heat and cold gear )8 yrs running, all boils down to your preferences and finances

I have the Scent Blocker MidWeight and Expedition for my base layers. Unbelievably comfortable and warm. Recently here in Ok it was 3 degree F and I wore my upper and lower Expedition weight base layer and was still warm. My layers were base layer, Scent Blocker shirt and pants and then a Scent Blocker Mathews Merino wool jacket and then my final layer was the Scent Blocker Knock Out jacket and pants. Was comfortable the whole 4 hours I was out in the cold.

I've always liked smartwool. Also USGI issue Polypropelene underwear works just great. The older stuff is pretty cheap and the newer stuff is made by thinsulate.

A few years ago I went to the Dominican Republic and met with a garment manufacturer as I was considering getting into the tee shirt business. We discussed hunting clothes and UA came up. I asked the question, "Why is UA so dang expensive?" They cracked up laughing and said "Because people will pay for it". They went on to tell me they could make me the same thing as UA for a fraction of the cost. The only problem is I'd have to pay to market it like UA for it to sell like UA. Buy what you can afford, it will all keep you warm. Personally, I like wool.

I thought about getting one of those, but wouldn't a sleeping bag work just as well, for a lot less money?
