If you have used both, is the 33% higher cost of the 3.0 a direct comparison in performance.

I love my 3.0 as well. I wear my 3.0, and Sitka fanatic series and I am warm into the 30's, and when I wear sweat pants and hoody under my fanatic gear I am warm well into the single digits!

I currently wear a Rocky compression layer, long johns, sweat pants and hoodie and a light jacket. Then I wear body heaters on my chest, kidneys, foot warmers and hand warmers in my hand warmer sleeve. I was actually quite toasty at 25 degrees yesterday but, would like to reduce a layer. Maybe the sweat pants and hoodie layer. I really like the Ridge Reaper Infrared hear but, spending nearly $400 isn't going to cut it this year.

Best improvement I made in staying comfortable was adding a wind layer.
Doesn't matter if its only a 5mph wind it makes a world of difference.
I bought my wife some natural gear winterceptor fleece it was in the 20 here with high winds Monday and Tuesday and she was quite cozy with that and a 3.0 set. Added a fleece pullover but it got too hot just standing still.
I was in 3.0 top, rocky heavy weight top and bottom, camo shirt and pants and red head soft shell and I got really cold once the wind hit me. Could just feel it creep through and feel the cold on the soft shell.
Messed around with the ecwcs gen3 rain suit and it made all the difference, but it was loud.

Winterceptor fleece and a smart wool base is my next purchase.
