Just curious to know what all of your thoughts are on Uncle Ted as a Spokesperson for the hunting industry. I don't want to get into any NRA and 2nd amendment arguments here, I'm speaking of the hunting industry, specifically bowhunting in general. If anyone here has seen Spirit of the Wild; and heard of the recent trouble he's been getting into with illegally baiting, would you consider him an ethical hunter?
my understanding of Ted's 'baiting' was that he used some c'mere deer or something like it... many states have baiting laws, and even some that do the liquids like deer caine and etc are legal.... personally I think the charge was kind of trumped up cuz of who he is... whether or not you like the guy, I don't think anyone can deny that he brings visibility to the sport... I won't comment on his ethics cuz I don't think this particular instance is particularly good... but all in all, he's a net positive on hunting...
I think he's a wash...he does as much good as he does bad. The dude is passionate, no doubt about that. He's a little too extreme for my liking. I think thats what draws a lot of people to him, both negative and positive. He's a lightning rod. His message, for the most part, is good...the delivery, not so much.
I'm still trying to figure out what made him such a well known"celeb". He's a decent musician but wasn't a huge headliner act. His show is nothiing but tired cliches and is usually whackem and stackem fest. He hunts high fence often on his shows, something that most seem to oppose. I can listen to his music, but his political rants turn me off. He gets ratings, but he's not someone that I would want to promote bowhunting.....if the decision were left up to me.
never met the man, but would really like to! a few personal questions i'd like to ask him that would really make or break whether or not i like him, but for the time being i really do like him. i havent heard the allegations yet about baiting. as far as a spokesman for bowhunting i'll say that im glad he is a bowhunter and is helping bringing our passion to the masses.
Dude is a stellar guitar player, with something like 14 top ten appearances over the years, what sets him apart is he has ALWAYS publicly lauded bowhunting, often shooting his 5000 dollar gibson byrdlands on stage with flaming arrows i think he might have over done it a bit, but his heart is more than likely in the irght place
I'm talking about the finished product= albums. I know he can play, I just find his music decent. All hat no cattle IMO.
fwiw - a LOT of decent (and even more not so decent) artists get famous... right time/place etc... I give you examples like back street boys, taylor swift, nickelback...
you don't like their music? lol. I have mixed feelings on the Uncle, probably should have stated how i felt when I started the thread, but w/e. I think his heart is in the right place, he wants to get people out in the woods and definitely loves to hunt. His show, "Spirit of the Wild" seems to me like bbm said, a whack em and stack em fest. I know that's not how most bowhunters hunt. Also, some of the shots I've seen taken on the show are less than what I would even consider marginal shot placement, but either way Ted is stoked and never says he made a bad shot. My point is, does shooting everything in the woods and not necessarily waiting for a clean shot promote our sport to the masses in a positive light? Personally I think no.
to bowhunting enthusiasts, no it doesn't... to outsiders looking in, then I'd say it probably does... the problem is mistaking what WE (bowhunters) think about things versus what non-bowhunters watch and get excited about... i'd bet some real money that gun-only hunters that watched his show would likely get excited about it... might even entice a few gunners to try bowhunting... that can't be bad for the sport as a whole unless WE don't want so many people to get involved with it... like I said, i think he is a net gain for hunting... now whether or not that gain is a positive gain or a gain of negative influence from inexperienced hunters I couldn't say...
I don't care for allot of the things he does but no one can deny the fact that he fights for the rights of bowhunters. He's not afraid to stand up to people. He gets my respect for that.
