I have a 7 year old, will be 8 in June. He is a trooper and started hunting with me this year - ground blind only.

I had the bright idea to hang two stands - my LW Assault for him and a LW Alpha when/if I buy one if you all think this is a somewhat sane idea.

My thought... I climb, hang the Assault and the Alpha, sit in the further of the two and my son climbs (harness and lineman the entire way) and sits in the assault to my left.

Am I nuts thinking this is a good idea/or would even work? I really want to get him in a stand with me and unless there is a two man climber (I know there isn't), this is the only way I see to do it short of a ladder stand which will not work where I hunt.

Thoughts? I am really open to criticism here...not wanting to do something unsafe.

    Sean

How about getting a ladder stand and put a hangon next to it so he could sit in the ladder with a rail around it while you sit in the hangon stand.

are there any portable ladder stands?

all the ones I have seen are pretty large...we have to take down our stands where I hunt on Quantico, so a portable is my only option

if he's got a safety harness i don't think it'd be a huge deal. the ladder stand would be better, but i doubt you'd want to lug around something that heavy. i don't think, not positive, you'd find a ladder stand that weighed less than 30-40lbs, vs a portable or climber that's alot lighter.
has the blind not worked out? just wondering because i know i prefer a tree stand but a blind can be just as exciting, plus you can get away with more movement . plus a fall in or by a blind would just be funny and no one gets hurt and you don't have a heart attack.
what did your wife say to this, i think my wife would kill me if i told her we're going up in a tree :)

FM, my buddy & I had a set up very similar to this in the area we hunt. there is a group of 3 trees all about 2' apart and there are good trails on both sides & we had our stands set up basically back to back.

I am pretty good size guy 6'1 220 and 47 years young and my ladder weighs 65-70lbs i dont brake it down even, if i need to move it 100-200 yards i just lay it down pick it up at the balance point and off i go, or i can carry it to the field edge and throw it on the truck and move to the new spot. finding people to help me move my stuff takes to long to get the help so i get tough and get going.

you marines are tough treestand wont be any problem:D

stay safe and thanks for serving.

The blind was working fine, looking for options...

All my wife said was "its in my best interest to ensure that nothing happens to him"...
