I found the time to shoot my Bowtech Tomkat and my new Bowtech Black Ice last night. My Tomkat is still as quiet as it was the day I bought it. The Black Ice has a very distinctive TWANG coming from the string. The guy I got it from has what he calls a Kisser button on the string. Could that be what is making the noise? I'm taking it to my pro shop in a few days to have him set it up for me. I'm sure he will help me find the noise. I hope it is something that can be silenced because I won't keep it if not. Any ideas what it could be?

What does the Black Ice have on it for string silencers? How about silencers on the limbs or a string stopper?

I've never heard of a kisser being the source of a noticable twang sound, but I guess it's slightly possible.

It has a few silencers on the string and a couple on the limbs. It's basically the same setup with silencers as the Tomkat. I'm not sure about the string stopper and I don't have the bow with me at work. I'll take some close up pictures when I get home and post them up tomorrow.

I'd be concerned..... My Black Ice was very quiet, and if anything, the couple Tomkat's I've had were DEFINITELY louder than the Black Ice, and it wasn't even CLOSE.

I just talked to the guy that used to own it and he said he thinks it doesn't have a string stopper. If that's the case, problem solved. I'll know when I get home from work tonight.

My experience has been that bows with noticeable Twang is that string has stretched and needs replaced. How old is string?

It has had less than 100 arrows through it.

    That's a Hoyt for ya....

I'd look the bow over VERY CLOSELY, make sure the MOD screws are tight, and everything is in order, you shouldn't notice too much TWANG out of that bow. I really liked the Black Ice, probably on of my top 5 favorites that I've ever shot, and I've shot a LOT of different bows....

Yup, look it over carefully for loose screws, sight, etc. Do you have a rubber band on the peep sight? That will cause a noise just like that when it's too short. Let us know what you find.
