Was out hunting and at around 11AM, went to check with the land owner to see what was new in his world. After helping him work on his trailer, I was trying to think how to kill some time until the "afternoon" hunt. I had noticed on the way to and from his property, over the past days, that all the local farmers had started turning their fields over. Not being a farmer, and no real access to one, I had to ask myself why. While I still have not found the answer, I figured what they heck. Jumped on the Kubota, hooked up the disk, and went out to my 3 acre plot. Being that it was in the 30s overnight, I was expecting the ground to give me a fit....NOPE, the disk ate it up and made short work of the whole thing in just over an hours time. So, now, the field is turned...but the question is still there. WHY? Any one have any advice on why this is done this time of year?
My guess is because its drier in the fall and saves time in the spring. They have to get work done when they can.
I agree with Dan. You would think because they have little to do this time of year and you never know how wet the spring will be.
I thought maybe it was to bring some weed seed to the surface and let the freeze kill them.... Need to befriend a local farmer Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
