Should have taken the bow this morning but it was going to storm. Shot him at around 30 yards. Several more long beards on the property so I'll be after then for the rest of the season with the bow.

Took my oldest back over to IL today using the intel we'd gathered from yesterday's hunt... this time we set up where they wanted to go and three gobblers plus three hens flew down into the field in front of us. Matthew took out the first gobbler about four minutes after they hit the ground.



We'll hit MO's youth opener on April 8 & 9 and then it'll be off to Kansas for a full week where I'll be behind the bow too and then on to NE for another full week where I'll be hunting as well, and then back to MO to finish out our seasons and I'll get lots of hunting in then too.

Just out of curiosity, what season are you hunting now in IL? Youth season doesn't start until next weekend and that is the kickoff.

 

They have zones in IL... Southern zone was this past weekend. Straight off the DNR website:

2016 YOUTH SPRING TURKEY SEASON DATES
Northern Zone - April 2 & April 3
Southern Zone - March 26 & March 27

 

I'm off to Nebraska I'll be hunting tomorrow through possibly Monday. Hopefully I'll put something on the board for us.

 

If you guys need a alternate let me know I'm going out the weekend of April 9th.

 

Well no extra tags in my second unit so i am going to regretfully withdraw this years. Hopefully there is some alternates but on the bright side got a preference point for next year

 

Sorry to hear man... but preference points can be a very good thing! I'll let Crick know we need an alternate.
