Well I had a great weekend. Got one jake with about a 4 inch beard. Nothing special but I had to gun him so can't enter him for the contest. I took my youngest daughter with me and we hunted Friday evening, all day Saturday and then got to Sunday morning with only one opportunity I couldn't capitalize on. It was my daughters 2nd time out and she was a trooper. With all the getting up early and no complaining from her, I wasn't gonna let us go home empty handed. All in all it was a great weekend. We've still got some toms running around the property so should be just a matter of time I hope. Our birds this year have been much more unpredictable than in the past so this spring is the toughest I've ever had. Hope every one else is well and getting out in the fields!
Been scouting these birds for the last week and they have done the same thing every night and morning for the last 5 days. It's getting closer here in MN!
One week Trevor! If you need a hand in population control, I am only an hour and a half away:-) Looks like fun man! Way to scout!
Good luck Trev. Nice pic. Im gonna try to take the wife out to a new place this sat and see whats out there.
Just got permission to hunt this property last week, first night of scouting was a success! One week from today I'll be out there
Looks great Trevor. I just got some luck my way too. A co-worker's father-in-law owns a 50 acre mandarin farm and he just invited me and another buddy from work to hunt it. Went out yesterday morning to see the property and saw a few hens. Looks promising and it will be nice to hunt local to me too for a change. Hopefully be out there Saturday morning depending on the weather. Supposed to rain but I don't think we'll get a lot so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Haven't been out scouting yet. I hear turkey every morning when I get home from work after closing my truck door and then make a quick call with my mouth and get a response every time .. Seen a group of 6 long long beards in a field next to my house on Tuesday.. Also saw a group of 7 Jake's cross the road in front of me a 1/2 mile down the road yesterday. Went and bought a bigger blind last week because the doghouse blind I had was too small too shoot my bow out of especially since I'll be taking uncle with me. Beeb practicing shooting out the blind in my back yard lol. Also waiting for the NAP turkey broadheads to come in at my local bow shop, not sure what they ordered but what ever the get in I'll give a try. Good luck out there everyone, I still have 3 weeks before season starts here in PA.
I am out Wednesday with you Trevor. I got on to some private turf that I have had success on in the past. Not much sign up by where i plan to go. I did see 2 toms strutting on the road by the parking area with 5 hens, but they like that private, unhuntable property. Going Tuesday to try and put one to bed to get a game plan.
Good luck guys. Im headed to Missouri tomorrow to do some snaggin. Gonna get back in the field when I get back home.
Man this season has been tough. Hunted all weekend again and no luck. A friend of mines father-in-law owns a 50 acre mandarin farm near here. Quite a few turkey running around so I hunted there all weekend. Got a shot off on a jake zig zagging between the trees. He was moving and I hit him but no kill shot. Only feathers on the arrow, no blood. The next morning went out and didn't see a single turkey on the property. Word travels quick I guess. Still trying guys. Glad to see some seasons are starting to open for the rest of us.
Hunted this past Saturday and heard one gobble all day seen 3 hens it was really windy so the birds were pretty quiet. Going back out this Saturday maybe my luck with change
Had a awesome hunt this morning. Called a tom in to about 60 yards but then he hung up and some hens took him away. Hopefully get it done tonight
Well opening day was a bust for me. One hen this morning came in to decoys. Didn't hear a gobble morning or afternoon.
