I know we have a turkey hunting board, but it seems busier here.

I am tossing around the idea of hunting turkeys with my bow. I know it is much more difficult than a shot gun - but it just seems I'd enjoy it that much more! We are going to go in early and see where they are roosting and learn the direction they are heading when they land. We've had a problem of them going towards the neighboring land where we don't have permission (which is why we have always gun hunted them). So, if it is favorable in my direction - we are going to place a ground blind out there. I am going to be purchasing a turkey decoy to practice - but how many of you do it? Any advice? My husband has done it a couple times but never had been able to recover his bird (Said he pulls too much and arrow blows through them?) - so he will be continuing gun.

    Thanks in advance!

Go for it get a good Ground blind if you don't have one....

the farm I lease has two big o'l boss gobblers that roam it in the spring both of their beard drag the ground when they strut , no one around me hunts turkeys. I just might go after them this spring, but overall turkey hunting just doesn't do it for me...

as far a pulling too much and the arrow blowing through them nope, he just needs to use a diff head draw weight has nothing to do with it .. shot placement and a good broad head are the key..

He is just skeeerd to use a bow...lol

It is the only way I hunt them anymore. Remember a turkeys vitals are small. Learn where they are and practice. Your husbands poundage has nothing to do with it, just poor hits most likely. I have had them drop in their tracks and I've had to chase em a ways lol. Last season I started going for headshots with the Bullheads, only used regular BH's after a bullhead miss.... bowhunting turkey is a crazy good time!!

Thanks everyone. I am excited to try it. Gun hunting just doesn't interest me (though I do hunt the seasons) but I love my bow. I plan on ordering my 3D target here soon, none of the stores around carry them!

I went with my bow last year and I am hooked. I didn't get a shot, but working them (or trying to) into bow range was very exciting. I use NAP Gobbler Getters, only time I use mechanical heads.
