Well I have been reading around and i noticed a lot of people that will carry turkey tags when deer hunting, I think this is a great idea since the 70+ acres we own and use for hunting has tons of turkeys. I plan to pickup a turkey tag just incase I see one walking from stand to stand. I'm wondering if i should buy a separate broadhead for these turkey, or if my monetec g5s will work. And what exactly do you try to shoot for on a turkey?

Thanks again for helping I really appreciate it. I have already learned so much on these forums in just a few days. It's crazy.

I would think just about any broadhead would be sufficient. Alot of guys go for the challenge of hitting then in the head/neck, that will work but also the vital area is more common. And it ruins alot of meat but if you shoot through the drumstick area, they have a lot of blood vessels in there that puts them down pretty quick. If your feeling adventurous then there is always the Gobbler Guillotine, I have never tried it, but it looks fun.

Wow those guillotines look like something for lord of the rings.. How far will a turkey fly if its hit in the vitals, or will it fly at all?

The guillotine is for a neck shot that lops off their head. If you hit, they are dead where they stand.

Alright thanks. I'm just trying to figure if I should spend $30+ on a turkey broadhead or just use the ones i have. I think that I will probably wait till I'm a better shot and next year get the guillotines.

The guillotines are a fun thing to mess around with, but not completely necessary. You deer broadheads should do just fine. I wouldn't say they fly at all after being hit as long as you do it right. They generally just fall over and flop around, kind of like butchering a chicken, same sort of deal.

You might want to go with a mechanical head. From what i hear, mechanicals have a better chance of NOT passing through. Its better if that arrow is sticking out, limiting wing movement. I've shot one bird with an arrow- hit with rage- no pass through, cut his heart in half. Goood luck.

I'd use your deer heads, as most know turkeys have exceptional vision, it would be difficult to change arrows while deer hunting to take a shot at a turkey. Its difficult to just pull back on one without a blind without spooking them. Best of luck.

Yes. Hardest part is getting drawn. Any broadhead will do.

Well I did have a little luck over the weekend seeing them, but didn't get a shot. I was walking back to our campsite from my tree stand through a cornfield and I turned a corner and there was a whole flock of them. They ran into the woods so I tried to stalk them. they ran across our property line and I knew other people were hunting there so i didn't want to walk by everybody else in their tree stand looking like an idiot chasing turkeys.. but it was still fun haha.

I've used Rage 2 on turkey with great luck! I do like a broadhead that will stop the arrow in the bird for more than one reason! But any broadhead will work. I do know some guys that will dull up old heads to stop pass through and use them!

Rage work real well and I found that if it is a bit dull it works even better.

ive used everything from muzzy 3blades, and even a whopper 4 blade 125grn muzzy, nap gobbler getters, and a cheap cabelas brand similar to muzzy. same results from all, every bird has died within sight.
