We have been hammered with rain in the last couple of weeks, the problem lies in that my hunting land is in a low-lying area of Anson county, the woods are starting to hold water and flood. How will the birds react will they leave the property, I haven't made it in the woods yet but going to try this weekend - any tactics for hunting flooded timber -
I've seen turkeys wade and even swim the swamps down in SC. Your birds will adapt but they may adapt by moving to higher ground if there is no nesting or feed to hold them where they are. Stick to areas that are proven roosts near feed (mature oaks on field edges or steep gullies).
In my experiences, they will generally move to higher ground. However... I've seen LOTS of turkeys roost in flooded areas over standing water. My guess is that they feel more secure there. Good Luck!
Exactly!! The turkeys in my area roost in a HUGE tamarack swamp that always holds water. They can hear predators from a very long way away.
Thanks going to head to the oaks this weekend and hope the birds are there, ready to let the air outta one
If you got any fields around your area Frank check them out. My buddies have already killed two heading to the pastures and I almost connected Saturday morning, but I got a little aggressive and they seen me. Good Luck
Thats kinda what I am banking on, planning on hunting the hardwoods in the corner of a secluded field, going to listen at first light and see if I can get a bearing on the birds -
