Yea. First one this year was 20lbs I believe. Most of our birds around here that are mature run 20-22 lbs in my experience
Not sure if I posted this or not. #3 for me. Va this time. Public land. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Monday morning in an enclosed blind...rain started this afternoon at its going to continue the next 5 days...so they say. I haven't seen the turkeys around lately though did herar a few gobbles this afternoon up in our woods as I planted the mnt ash in the tree food plot. Nothing on cams and the woods have not been over turned as usual. My calling is going to have to be dang good this year .
New spot for last hour. Farmerplowed right along line infront of me. Great for wormingright off cover of pines. Leeks and mayapple everywhere plus all wild flowers in bloom. Windy and still very cold and raining
Well 9 mins to close and I finally get a response. He's getting closer when a down pour hits. Its close so if I get a pic...it will be him waking by in the rain. I'm sitting tight till it let's up and to avoid spooking him if he's close. He went silent the moment the skies opened. Rain stopped just now and suns out...lol Well at least I know ones around .
Man it is cold and wet out here. Crows and song birds woke up. No gobble yet , thought rowwould vet one to sound off. Auhhgggg they put a strobe light on turbine across valley from me. Good thing I don't seize geezz!!!!!
Back out in low back woods. Green field below me and farm field above. Just realized I have a mature dead ash 8 yrdsfrom this blind I need to rig and cut away from the slight lean in blind direction. No any sign of turkey. I just don't get it there were so many toms and jakes before the end of the month. You'd think I'd hear something. Great another down pour
Had to close windows up due to winds and rain. As you can see I repurpose every thing.Amazingly it keeps the wet out. ,
At old reliable turkey blind, snowing out cold! Thought i heard some ruffling as I got to the blind right at light I had 2 birds right over blind fly down. Landing 55 yrds away. One had a long thin beard but no color. Totally soaked and near jet black. Tried calling them back but they were on a mission headed up the hill to neighbors property. Should have known they'd be here. Snow and rain next 2 days. Not good nest weather at all. Have not seen one deer yet...hhmmmm.
Tired of snow and cold I'm in having first coffee. Just sit down andlook out the window. I see how this season is going..lol By the way plot she's in is growing great.
So this morning I had a plan. No rain until a little after fly down. Get decoys and go in to a ground brush blind where they flew down to yesterday. Why of course it's raining so I head to blind and set the decoys out in the direction they'd touch down. Light fog cold and wet. Made lite purr and clucks soon as I can see a bit. I start scanning the trees. Sure enough there she sits high in a maple 5o yrds away. I waited until it got brighter out and did a couple of light purr/ clucks. I wanted her to spot decoys then waited . Well she did and with a ruckus cackle she pitched off the limb and idea down hill on to the nieghborsre entrance cut. DidI mention she had a buddy directly over decoys then quietly followed her glide. Oh and we all watched a huge raccoon run under her and head in the direction she'd gone yesterday. I'll hang out in hopes she comes back up the hill tom in tow,not a single gobble.
Stuck in a brush blind due to gobbler where I was headed sounding off. Did an excited response now waiting 2 more gobbles but quiet now.phones getting wet wish me luck
So he went down into the gully in front of me and gobbled again. I did a couple of light clucks. Later I heard a clucking on the opposite ridge as though he was trying to circle around. 10 mins to close the hunter below us on the opposite side of road shot. But not a shot gun. Shot 4 more times . By that time I was packing up to stiffly haul my 65 yr old fanny off the cold wet ground to head home. It was not easy!.....Lol. Hope hunter shoots all day long...it will keep the birds up hill or across the street. Nice to hear a gobble, also heard one way down in upper neighbors gully a 1/2mile away they are in full search mode 10-12. Tonight is the last really cold wet night. Then things start warming up and drying out. I believe they may get more vocal.
Blurry pics I know. Hunting partner got it done. Today is the last day of the season and he came in on a string. Killed within minutes of flying down. Double beard to top it off. Weight was 18 lbs. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Went over to my old lease this morning on a personal invite with my buddy that still has it. Lots of birds. Must have heard over a 100 gobbles this morning. This dude palyed cat and mouse with us for over an hour and half before he showed up. Intense morning but we got it done. 22 lbs 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.
