So since the spuce started getting cut no birds. I did see5hens on camera the last snowstorm . Now I'm sorta pleased with that for now because it has given me time to work on and plant a few plots..
Congrats, post up some story to go with picture, still hunting thru all you guys in Sothern states...13 more days!!
Quickest hunt I have ever been on. Walked down to the field edge a little before sunrise. Blew my crow call and he fired off. I got set up with 3 decoys in front of me. He flew down from back in the woods right into the decoys. I felt like I was duck hunting. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Hhmmm weather in the 80's no rains for days. 3 morning in a row I've tried firing up birds on the roost ..NOTHING. I have not seen any birds in days .
See complain and they will show up. A no beard Jake in full display walked through with 5 hens one hen with a thin 10 in beard. Hhhmmmm wonder how such a young Tom got such a good little flock. Where are the long beard Toms? Plots plant last week zero growth though we've had zero rain since the flooding rains the day I p,acted that was followed by 20's at night a few days after. The corn field have greened up, excuses there IA just no killing the weeds in that field. That is something driving farmer crazy. Every year that field takes a bunch of prep., no matter how many years he plants corn
first longbeard off my own property, I bought my little 13.4 acre slice of heaven on earth 3 n a half years ago and have been working on improving the place for wildlife,, I cleared 2 acres and made a food plot and have slowly thinned the undergrowth in the mature woods that surrounds it . This past fall I started to get pics of turkeys and had a small flock come by while I was in the deer stand that included a few good toms. Opening day of the Georgia season I set up on the edge of the plot and eagerly awaited day light. As soon as it got light enough to see i made a few soft calls and was answered by 2 gobblers from the roost not 100 yards away. I quietly waited and finally herd them fly down and made I made a few more calls, they both gobbled .I put the calls down and got ready, They came into the plot and headed straight for my decoy spread. When they got to 20 yards the both fanned out and started strutting, I took aim on the bigger one and BOOM!!!, Dropped him in his tracks. 11.25' beard, 1" spurs and weighed around 20lbs. My biggest turkey to date. Nothing like the feeling of killing the boss on My own property!!!
#2 for NC. Epic morning. Snuck into the roost and had about 30 or 40 birds going nuts all around me. Jake's tearing up my decoy. Hens making all kinds of noise. Woods were on fire today. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Dang that's a big bird. I can get long beards here but they never have the weight in spring after a long cold winter. CONGRATS!
