What do you guys and gals look for in a turkey gun? Any suggestions? Post pics of your rigs! Im a bow hunter above all, but have no desire in killing turkey with a bow. I like things that go boom...guess turkey is when that comes out of me. I want to get a good shotgun for birds this spring, so gathering info on what others go for when they get a new gobbler blaster!

I use a Browning Gold Hunter 3" Chamber. I used to have a Mossburg 835 but I just like the Browning better.

This is not a picture of mine but is excatly what it looks like.

870 Super Mag with an Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike choke and a Mueller 2-7x32 circle dot scope. This gun has flattened a LOT of Bradford County birds. I don't hunt much for them anymore since I got the bass boat but I still try to get out once a year or so.

For those of you that have 870's. Do any of you have the timney trigger fix? It's awasome if you didn't know about it.

Probably the cheapest gun you will see on here, but it has killed quite a few turkeys over the past five years. New England firearms pardner pump, aftermarket choke and sight comes to a total of about 190 bucks.

I really like my 1187 super mag. It shoots anything up to 3 1/2". It's their turkey gun. I have killed a turkey at 64 yards with it.

I love it. I also use it to yote hunt with a different load/choke combo. I'm shooting 3.5" Hevi 13 #6's out of it and it puts between 190-210 pellets in a 10" circle every time at 40 yards. I've also killed birds out to 60 yards with it, the one hanging in that pic was shot somewhere around 55 and it didn't even flop.

I don't have the timney trigger fix either on mine, I've never had a problem with the trigger anyhow, I'd put the $$$ into the right load and choke combo instead.

I have to double check my regs but if we are allowed semi auto I was thinkin the 1187...but in the pistol grip stock I commented on above. I also plan on using the gun as a slug gun and need make sure semis are allowed here and a few other states I may hunt with it.

Haha......pretty soon those semi auto shotguns with the pistol grip are going to be "assault weapons".

Lol no doubt. Sucks. But that's a whole other topic. Also on another topic, if you ever need some help catching some bass out that boat of yours let me know.

Do you feel a scope on there for turkeys is a major advantage? What power scope do you have on it? Is it specifically for turkey hunting?

835 Ulti mag and love it. Also use it for yotes, ducks, geese, and the slug barrels for the 835 are reasonably priced.

Not speaking for him but I plan on having one. With how tight current patterns can be and how far modern shotguns are hitting birds, I see scopes as a great advantage. Plus, it keeps aiming simple...one less thing that can go wrong. Not sure as to what power yet, havent got that far in my research. Def wanna make sure it has a good eye relief though with how them 3.5" turkey loads and slugs kick!

I do feel it's an advantage for turkeys. I've gotten excited in the past with open sights and lifted my head off the stock or not settled in right and missed birds at close ranges. Since I've gotten setup with the scope (about 8 years ago) I've killed probably a dozen birds and never missed one. It's a 2-7x32 power Mueller scope with an illuminated circle dot reticle (pic of the reticle below). If the target is under 60 yards and in that circle it dies every time. My gun never leaves 2 power.

When I setup the shotgun it was only for turkeys, but now I also use it for predators at times too, I hunt a couple of areas where it's too suburban to really hunt with my AR so this is a good 50 yard yote gun with the right loads and choke. I like the illuminated reticle for that also, most of my hunting for predators is at night.

I love my Mossberg 535. I have killed three turkeys with it and it shoots up to 3 and 1/2 inch shells. It patterns awesome with a HS Strut choke. I've dropped a turkey at 40 yards with it and my little brother also killed his first turkey with it at 40 yards. Both birds just dropped.

Plus, it is a very affordable gun that has been extremely reliable for me. Just my .2 cents. I'm like you, when turkey season rolls around I'm ready to run and gun for them. Its a blast!
