I have a hoyt trykon XL and have done everything in an attempt to tune it. It paper tests slightly right. I have changed the cables and it no longer has the "yolk" system. My main question is which side of the cable that connects to the limb do I need to shorten to get my paper test perfect? I was told with the old yolk system the cable could slide slightly and pull more on one side of the split limb than the other, causing it to paper test to the right. Any insight would be helpful! Thanks
All right, let's start here.....What's your complete set-up??? DL, DW, arrow, arrow length, tip weight. The whole set-up, and we'll work from there. I have 2 Trykon XL's and both are good shooters, and relatively easy to tune w/ a adequate to STIFF spine. I won't waste my time w/ paper as it only tells me that I don't have a "perfect release," and I already know that. For me, I "eyeball" everything, then zero one pin at 20-25yds, then I do a walkback using that pin shooting from 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 yds or so and get a basic idea of whether your rest is centered or not, adjust so you have a relatively perfect vertical line for your pattern. Once I feel the rest is "centered," I screw on some BH's and shoot to get everything "fine-tuned," and if I have BH's hitting w/ my FP's at 40-50yds, I'm done. Having rest that allows separate windage/elevation adjustment helps, but I have a NAP QT2100 on one of my 2, and it was almost as easy to tune as the TT Micro-Adjust I have on the other.
I have a DL of 30 at 70 lbs. I have Beman MFX micro diameter 340 arrows at 291/2" and 100 grain tips. My bow is a very good shooter but I am just trying to make it perfect which may not be realistic. My mechanical broadheads are essentially the same as the field points and the fixed blades are shooting just a bit to the left. I have a trophy taker shaky hunter drop away rest which seems to work good for me. The only thing I can come up with may be that the arrows are not stiff enough but I have reduced the poundage to 62 and shot, still paper tested left? Thanks for the help!
No, those arrows are about perfect, I shoot 29" and a little extra, at 72#, and a 29.5" 340 w/ a 125gr tip spines almost perfect. If your BH are shooting a little to the left, then the rest needs moves a little to the right. I also am not a big fan of the Shaky Hunter arm as it allows more movement than I like, if you can get a "Pronghorn Arm," it may help tighten things up a bit as well. I can almost assure you though, that the spine is about perfect, maybe even would hit a touch better w/ a 125gr tip. Other possible options could be if you're torquing the bow, you can send groups left or right. I shoot w/ an open hand w/ my fingertips resting on the front of the riser and the grip basically sitting in the "ball of my palm" at the base of my thumb.
