i got my bow set at 70# and it easy to draw and doesnt effect my shoulder while shooting what so ever but after i shoot my shoulder is paying for it..... i know i have heard shoot the bow at the top or close to its maximum draw weight.... what effect would it have on my bow if i dropped the weight down to 60#? thanks for the help guys
Probably not much effect at all with a 2009 bow. Maybe a little more noise but I doubt it. The biggest effect will be that you likely would need new arrows.
I belive I have heard that you you should not shoot below the 95% of the peak poundage rating of your bow for optimun performance which if im not wrong would be no lower than 66.5 lbs.
I would shoot it at whatever poundage makes your shoulder feel better, almost all bow's have a 10 lb range adj and while it maybe not as efficient as it is at 70 lb it's a long way to bow season and the older we get the more time it takes to heal. also try your arrows i see problems with to lite of spline but rarely with too heavy.
Old school says shoot them near their peak weight.... quieter and more efficient. I'm old so I go with old school. You want to drop 10 pounds in weight... well hell, it's a chance to buy a new bow. LOL Tell the wife... my shoulder can't take this weight anymore. LOL After years of shooting 80 pounds I dropped down to a 60-70 pound bow on my last purchase. I shoot it at about 68 pounds. It was a good move for a guy in his mid 60s. Oh wait... I'm in my later 60s. LOL
my bow is new, i havent hunted with it once yet... rite now im ok it just bothers me after i shoot for a bit but im just mainly thinking about summer time when i start shooting everyday day or so for an extended time.... i got some little 5 and 10 pound weights and a strecthing band im gonna do a little self therapy, but we will see....
