My bow has a silicone tube for aligning the peep. When the darn thing broke…again, I removed it. Without the tubing, the string vibrates and hums much more than when it was attached. Kind of spooky! I already have Simms string leaches. The point of impact also is higher than normal. I’m thinking I will reattach the peep tubing to regain the quietness and install a second piece from the lower buss cable to the string in the same relative position to the upper piece. It would seem that silly tubing acts as a silencer (I finally got the string trained and the peep is always in alignment) of sorts so I’m thinking “If some is good and more is better, too much must be just right”. What thinkest thou, o wisest of twanging wise?
I'm sure it's because the tip where the tube attaches vibrates through the shot. I had a peep tube, broke and almost hit my eye. I switched to a tubeless and its significantly quieter than the "snap" of the tubing. IMO, lose the tube, you won't be sorry!
You wont be sorry till you draw back on a monster and your peep turned and string blocks your view. LOL
conclusions from the lab Here are the latest results from the Real World Testing Laboratory located just outside of historic Sedro-Woolley in Washington: A: A second piece of tubing has no additional quieting effect on the bowstring. B: That second piece of tubing slaps the forearm and disturbs follow-through. Conclusion: Install string stop and eliminate the tubing. My biggest problems are the continuing tension degradation of said tubing and my inability to duplicate exact tension when installing its replacement thus affecting shot placement. Predicting the sure and eventual failure of this accessory is problematic at best and promotes continual “Chasing the Ghost”.
Unless he's got GOOD STRINGS, I'd recommend he keep the tubed peep. I agree that an STS should help, but I'm a big fan of the tubed peeps as I don't have to twist my string to re-align my damned peep recurrently with the tubed peep, and I'm more consistent with a bow set up with a tubed peep. Just one more reason I keep the tubed peep on my bow. I may be losing a few FPS, but I'm gaining consistency and confidence!!!!
I wasn't confident after being hit in the face with a broken tube. I've also never had to twist my peep one I set it.
.... Sorry Greg, I'm one of those blasted Mathews punks:p Still, I'd rather have to twist my peep, then loose an eye...
I couldn't quite remember, and didn't feel like clicking around the forums to verify, LOL... For some reason I thought you did and took a chance. Oh well.. .it's probably because you SHOULD be shooting a BowTech.
I shoot the black ice and had the G5 peep and had to keep twisting it. I switched to the tube peep and will probably go back to the G5 after I get a better string. It's great for alignment but it's also rather loud and the thing has broken a few times already.
:D I hear ya, no doubt about it, the BEST bows made don't come with the BEST strings made, but even on my upgraded strings I still had a little "twist." Shameless plug for a shameless company!!!! :D I own a Bowtech, TOO, gotta have something for the WIFE to shoot!!!! LOL Actually that little BT Tomkat I have is a nice little bow......with a tubed peep!!!!
