I believe they made it to tourney 9 times before Tubby (still not very good). Firing Tubby will cost more $ than keeping him would have as they still owe him a couple years of salary. U of M is one of the largest Universities in the country so I think they can afford to pay a basketball coach. The current AD is not the guy who hired Tubby in the first place. He wants his own guy. There are a lot of rumors about Shaka Smart since the current AD hired him at VCU but that is certainly a long shot at best IMO
