    Hey all,
I am returning to trad shooting with an old Browning Safari I I picked up at a yard sale. I have straightened the twist in the lower limb, peeled off the stick-on flipper rest, and am waiting for a rug rest and plate to arrive in the mail.

Then I measured the string. 49" on a 54" bow? This is how I bought it, but should I get a longer string before I start shooting this regularly? How does a shorter string change bow dynamics?

The string Is suppose to be 3 Inches shorter then the length of a recurve not strung I believe. Longbows I believe are different.

The Important factor is your brace height.. I'm not sure but a shorter bow usually has a little higher brace height than a longer bow. Give it a measure and see what it is..

That is true but I would still get a string 3" short or one that is AMO for 54". Then I would twist the string to the right brace height.

The brace height is 7" (string to edge of shelf, right?). Of course, when I moved the nock after installing my rug, I saw that the serving is frayed where the old nock has been for the last 30 years. So a new string just moved from 'want' to 'need soon'.

Thanks Schultzy. I also ordered some books from the library, time to do some learning!

Once I know some more, I'll be back with more questions. I weighted my carbons with weedwacker line- wow! What a great idea. This is a great site.
