some if the guys I hunt with swear by the Mathews brand. I shot a few of them and walked out with a Creed XS. a few of them said one of the best bows the ever owned was the Z7. I say go for it. good luck

There is little difference between bows. The bigger differences are between archers which is why there are so many different brands and models. What you are paying for when you pay more for a Mathews is their extra large marketing budget. Nothing more.

If the Mathews feels better to you and you are willing to pay significantly more for that feel/fit then by all means go for it but don't dismiss the Bear simply because a lower price is perceived as lower quality.

The best bow I've ever owned (and currently use) is a Jennings that was made while Bear owned the Jennings name. I wouldn't think twice about buying another Bear product.

A lot of people have never owned a Bear but will put them down because they are sold in big box stores. I have owned several Bear bows. While the lower prices ones are not up to the fit and finish quality of the higher end bows I have owned, they are still nice shooting bows. My least favorite of all the Bear's I have owned was a Jennings, which is funny because I see BB4tw loves his.

It comes down to your budget and if you like how they both shoot. We can all give you opinions but it's your choice. Bows are very personal things, we all like something different.

ok guys..i really appreciate all the advise. I bid on a couple z7 bows and both went over my max bid and ended up selling for 600. I was trying to find one for about 500 as many of the comments above said that was a reasonable amount. Unfortunately I have been unable to find one below $600 that is already the correct draw length which would require me to purchase the cam as well for a 28" draw length. I have stumbled across a Z7 magnum that is in my price range but was not sure how different the magnum is from the original z7. I have shot the Z7 but not the magnum. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

You'd need a different cam but a good price especially with that SKB bow case

I would not buy one without shooting it. I like lots of bows, Hoyt, PSE, Elite, Obsession. Bear are nice too, I've shot a lot of Mathews bows, the only one I like was the original Creed and Helim

If it helps you determine anything on price I only paid 810 for my Mathews HTR brand new. I wouldn't pay 700 for a used Z7. My opinion is to keep looking for a better deal.

The Z7 Magnum, in my opinion is Mathews' best single cam bow. I bought the first one my dealer got in when they first came out and just sold it last year. I still regret selling it. I love my Chill R, but I killed a lot of deer with that Mag, and would buy it back in a heartbeat. It's just a great shooting bow.
If that Z7 Mag is in your price range, and already in your draw length, go for it. It is an awesome bow.

Love both of the bows in my sig line... I picked up the Mathews used last year bare for I think $500 or maybe $550 as a back up bow for my Sept elk hunt. It ended up becoming my go-to rig for tree stand hunting. Just love the feel when I'm shooting at a downward angle. It's lighter. Definitely shoots quieter than the Mission also. I'm more accurate at distance with the Mission, but most would consider it hair splitting.

    Shoot them both.
Buy the Z7 after the seller comes down or he changes the set up to what you want.
