After having a cap on my last truck, I can't see living without one. I ordered a Leer for my new truck about a week and a half ago, and it should be in almost any day. I had a cap on my last truck for over 4 years and never once had a need to take it off. What could I possibly be hauling about on a regular basis that would require me to remove it?

As for why I love it....first, I keep a toolbox and misc items like a jack, jumper cables, etc in the bed of my truck at all times. I can keep my cap locked and it keeps my stuff not only dry, but relatively safe.

Second, during the hunting season I leave a lot of my gear back there. That includes my bow, my pole saw, boots, tupperware bin with all my gear, etc. Again, I can keep it all safe and dry under the cap and not have to take it in and out of my truck every time I'm done hunting. Been there, done that, didn't like it.

Visibility really isn't an issue with today's caps. The rear windows are huge, and hinges are all but non-existant. Likewise, the side windows are mostly frameless and provide ample viewing for just about anything you would need to do. Visibility was a big concern when I got my first cap, but I quickly figured out it wasn't really a problem at all.

Since you don't want a cap obviously, IMO a hard tonneau is the best way to go. You get the security of being able to lock it, and they do look nice. I had a Patriot cover on a truck I owned about 8 or 9 years ago and it was nice, but I did find that I had to take it off a few times a year to accomodate anything that stuck above the bed rails like a lawnmower, pressure washer, etc. Also, getting stuff out of the front of the bed was a nightmare. I had to keep a big metal rod/hook in the back so I didn't have to belly crawl up there to get stuff when I needed it.

If you just need to keep something dry every now and again and don't want to have something on your truck all the time, why not just use a tarp?

Retrax rolling/locking cover. Buddy has one on his diesel, best thing going as far as I'm concerned.

I'd LOVE the utility of having a cap on my truck, I just couldn't stand turning a nice truck into an astro van as far as looks go.

RC if you are looking for any sort of security, I would stay away from the snaps. On the link you posted, it shows that you can access it from any corner. Check out the Extang Trifecta. Its got underside clamps and won't budge if anybody pulls at it. You can only get into it by unlocking the tailgate. I think this option would suit you better.

Thanks for the link. Thats a pretty slick product. Its almost 3 times the price of the one I linked but certainly more secure.

Good luck with the decision. I've had it on my truck for about 3 years now and its a great option. For the reasons I purchased it, I believe its worth the extra money.
