The last couple years I have become a believer in trophy rock. These are a couple of early pics so far this season, but the action is steady at my mineral sites. Great thing is, hogs do not touch it!

I think the molasses, sweeteners or the fermentation process is really what turns on the hogs.

I've also had a good turn out with the rock though...

Looks like you're getting plenty of action at "the rock." The thing I like about it is how long it lasts.

I just use 50# trace mineral blocks. The brown ones you can get for like $5-7 and I bust them up into about 8-10 pound chunks. They last for months and the deer in my area hammer them. A lot cheaper than buying something with a picture of a deer on the package. Just another mineral options for those guys that don't want to spend the money.

I do this exact same thing but I also buy a couple bags of 50# general purpose mineral and some 50# bags of trace salt. Mix even amount of mineral with an even of salt and pour that over and around the block. I just bought over 300# of mineral the other day for less than $50. Way cheaper doing it that way. Deer hammer it and lasts a long time.

But I have had success with trophy rocks, it really all depends on what you're looking to spend.

I will have to look into that option for that 50# trace mineral rock. I have never heard of it before you guys mentioned anything on them. Sounds like a pretty good plan. Can you just buy that anywhere?

This is what the cheap mineral did for me in 1 year. I set a chunk about the same size in the picture the year before and that is how well it was hit. The hole is about 10-12" deep at its deepest.

That's a lot of action. Is there much difference in content between the trace mineral and trophy rock? Has anyone ever looked at that? I just didn't know if the trophy rock would have more of something that would be more beneficial for the deer?

Trophy rock pic of chemical composition and ingredients from the label below. But the various companies that create blends usually use some salt (NaCl) and add 'other stuff' per their proprietary blends. That may be fiber, vitamins, diCal, other minerals, etc.

I'm sure Tom or others can go deep on the subject of what makes for a good, better or best mineral mix.

I would bet the cheap feed store block has nearly the same content. They are both made for ungulates so I am sure there isn't much difference.

Trophy rocks are pretty much ONLY salt.

Look at the mineral content of the loose trace mineral from Producers Pride.
