You know what one of the big problems with people today.. so many feel the need to change and have changed for other people... then other people want and expect others to change for them. We have become a society of things should be this way and if they arnt this way ppl moan ***** and cry about it until it is. The anti hunter thing has popped up and I care less what they think.. I take my pictures in the field and only take them to make myself happy. If I want to post the pics and some anti hunter wants to get bent out of shape because of it... I dont care. If we bent over backwards trying to keep anti's or anyone else happy it would never end. Even if everyone took "tasteful" pictures, there is and will always be something else they dont like. Just how it is.
"If you're not changing, you're dying." I could argue that the problem is the complete opposite of what you think, but I'll keep it about trophy photos. This has more to do with the 80% in the middle than the anti crowd. We saw how ONE bear hunting video could change, or almost change, a law. No one is asking you to bend over backwards. Just asking for a quality photo. Which is pretty easy since everyone is toting around an iPhone.
The bear hunt only mattered because people caved. This pc world is going to be the death of all common people if we let it. Small groups have no power unless we give it to them.
If you think the Anti-crowd is small and not well funded, you are sorely mistaken. Tons of money that would like to take away your hunting rights, and huge numbers of people. All we are saying is, why poke a sleeping dog? They are always looking for ammunition to use against hunting, why make it easy for them? To say that you don't care about what people think, is to stick your head in the sand and ignore the threat all together. Not a good move. We MUST care about what others think of us, if we hope to keep our traditions.
There are no real statistics that I know of.. but the majority care less about us hunting deer. If you all are so worried they are a huge force and are going to take hunting away from us... no pictures and for sure no vids of hunting would be the best policy! The most tasteful pics and vids still piss them off.
You should get informed. The HSUS had over 194 Million in assets in 2012 on their tax return. More now I am sure. Look it up. They have successfully stopped many hunts. These are facts, not statistics. And yes, some of those hunts include deer, bear, wolves, etc.
I would go with no deer pics and no vids of hunts then if I were you. They sound well funded and could over take us at anytime.
If you only knew enough about the subject to understand the irony of your statement. Staying uninformed on the matter will certainly not make it go away.
Taking a "tasteful" picture wont make them like you or what you do either. Im not saying go for blood and gore or a pic of a pig shot in the face is good... but taking a pic in the field with a deer a little bloody? Come on. I think you are giving typical hunting pics too much weight.
The majority could care less until they do.. And being ridiculous isn't the best solution either. Hunters need to do a better job. Period.
I agree that hunters should watch the stupid stuff.. like the pic of the pig, that upsets the ones that wouldnt normally be upset (heck it even upsets some hunters). The ones that are going to be upset no matter what get upset by the fist pumping in vids and the fact we take a picture at all. Makes it look like we are "trophy" hunters.. if it was just for the meat we shouldnt take any pics or celebrate a successful hunt in their eyes. Your typical deer pic isnt that bad and only upsets the ones that will be upset no matter what. (I think)
This image makes me think of Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be American" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think these are slightly disrespectful. Unfortunately the Internet is flooded with these type of pictures, and many non-hunters, and anti-hunters think we are all like this because of these pictures. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow. This went from a "what do you prefer", to a politically wound, slinging contest, making out in the woods with your significant other. Forum theme of the year "Controversy".
Here's the way I see it. When I'm taking a trophy pic, I'm paying a little bit of my respects to the animal. The picture is much less about me and my accomplishment as it is about the magnificent animal that gave it's life for me and my family to consume. No doubt I'm a trophy hunter and pass many a deer waiting for that specific deer so I'm very proud of my accomplishment and love to share it with others, but I really want that picture to be about the deer and not about me. I think more of a problem with society is our self absorbed nature and inflated egos.
The problem with today's society is people have no self discipline and cannot stay out of other people's business. People would live a more peaceful life if they would stop worrying about what those around them are doing. I really appreciate the artwork and time you have put into your photos you have shared. They really are impressive but I also enjoy any photo that shows off our sport. Some really don't put that effort into the pose, me being one of them.
You couldn't be more wrong! Almost all of my deer go right from the woods to my butcher/taxi, who I allow to take a "horrible trophy photo" for me. I'm way past having to show off my deer.
