Anyone know any good trigger releases that are decent in price and good quality? I'm looking to make the transition from finger to release so any help would be great
Me and my girlfriend both shoot Scott releases. She shoots a Dual Caliper model called the caliper. I shoot a single caliper model called the Little Goose. Both great releases. The dual caliper model is generally cheaper. It was around 65 shipped to my door and the Little goose was around 80 shipped.
I've shot a bunch of different releases over the years and have found that I like the Scott and Tru-Fire models the best. If you're just getting started using a release I'd stick with a caliper-style as they seem to be the most universal and easy to use. I currently own and use both the Scott Sabertooth and the Tru-Fire Edge. I like the Scott better b/c of the forward trigger design but it's not for everyone. One thing I would make sure of is that whatever release you end up with DOES NOT have any velcro on it. There's plenty of releases out there with buckle straps that don't make noise when you put them on or take them off. Why any hunting company would use a velcro strap is beyond me.
I just got the cobra that is 360 swivel at the wrist and I like it a lot. It's pretty cheap, $60 when compared. I'm doing a lot of research now on back tension releases. It may be a good time for you to look into it as well.
I use a Scott Sabertooth Deluxe. It comes with four different triggers and has a buckle strap. I shoot twice a week (sometimes three) and it has held up great.
I'll echo the praise of Scott releases. My 11y.o. son was given a Scott Little Bitty Goose (single caliper) by his instructor, which introduced me to Scott releases. I then bought a Shark (dual-caliper around $50 online) which I am "selling" to my 9y.o. son for $5, and I bought a Silverhorn hook release that was last year's model for $55 (used about 100 times before the guy decided to switch releases).
I use a True fire that has VELCRO on it. I don't see any issues with Velcro at all. I have never taken it off or put it on in the stand or woods. If you buy one that has a swivel where the metal attaches to the wrist strap you can were it for hours. I put it on before I leave the house. I generally walk to my stand but, on the rare occasion I ride an ATV out to it, I just swivel it out of the way and it doesn't inter fear. I keep it on until I get back. I own and run an archery range and I have had it on almost all day before. Moving targets on and off the lanes and even filling out paper work for people. I do this at my range so that if I get a few minutes or so to sling a few arrows I can just pick up my bow knock an arrow and shoot a few before having to do something else. on top of that it works great!!!
The pin for the 360 system started working itself out. Cobra replaced it immediately, no questions asked, excellent customer service. I still like it a lot. I shoot about 50 shots every night.
