Ducks in our area are not as abundant as one would like and rarely see large groups, but its fun trying to find them.

I love good waterfowl pics. The trick to them is to get the camera as low as possible and it doesn't hurt to throw some corn in the water where you want them to be. I have actually waded out into swamps in a pair of chest waders and placed the camera on a tree standing in the middle of the water. If you can find a log going down into the water, that's a great place to place the cam, looking down the log. Very nice pics so far.

Yeah i wanted them lower, but we had a lot of rain in the forecast when i set them and took a little extra precaution. And i did try to find logs in the water and did get coon pics at a few different places but nothing else.... I really need some stick-n-pics, or a cheaper alternative that is more than a stick in the mud, that i can trust.

    Thanks for the tips though.

The camera height is always a risk you run when trying to get great water shots. Here's an idea for a camera mount for the waters edge. Take an old bleach bottle or something similar and put a hole in the bottom that lines up with the spout. Take a broomstick handle or something similar and put it through the holes, spout at the bottom. Use duct tape around the spout end of the bottle after you get the camera to the height you want. The camera strap will hold the camera to the bleach bottle. Of course you can only do this in a place where theft is not a problem and you don't have to lock your camera down. You may want to sharpen the end of the stick that goes into the ground.

Cool pictures. I am the same way last year. Had no interest in ducks till I seen other guys set ups. Stuck my camera in the pond by us and it was pretty cool to get some awesome shots. Cant wait till this spring to get back in there!

I second the Stic N Pic comment. You will love it and it helps you become more creative.

Anybody try to make a float for your camera so even if it does flood the camera stays on top of the water just make sure you're tied off i don't know just a thought.
