I must vent some frustration. A kid from the small town I grew up in (where I hunt) leases a 40 next to a 120 (share a 40 fence line) we lease and he has been tresspassing on our property. He has commented to my brother (around his age) on our stand placements and a ground blind we have just set up. He has commented saying try to keep me off and etc. I doubt this was the first time nor will be the last. My brother approached this very calmly and professionally, however, the other person did nothing of the sort. Very frustrating when we are staying out of properties right now, hunting edges, playing the wind, and all around doing a good job to manage the piece that we know has some quality bucks and some punk is trespassing all over our property. This is also a person who has a filled buck archery tag and is inviting anyone and everyone to hunt this property even though the last to perople who hunted with him were brothers that have almost 1200 acreas of land and an unlces farm whos they hunt as well. Does this suck yes, however, technically he can do as he wished. In texting my brother he made it very clear that he will continue hunting to fill his siters tag (never hunted a day in her life). Ohh yeah and last time I checked party hunting is illegal in WI for archery season. Oofta, I don't think I breathed throughout the whole time typing that.
I say call the cops & DNR to report the issue since he wants to be a punk! That really blows that bordering property hunters dont get along. I am very glad that the people that border the property I am on also are my friends! That helps a TON! We show our pictures to each other from trail cams and let each other know when and where we will be sitting in our stands.
Only you can decide to do, but a simple tip to your local conservation agent could pay off big. Trespassing is a chargeable offense. Sometimes the conservation department just needs a tip and will eventually catch them in the act. That is exactly what happened near me. There was a Kid that was poaching deer w/o calling them in, along w. other things. He couldn't keep his mouth shut, and someone tipped off the the CA, and in short order they busted him. He ended up loosing all hunting rights for 1 year. I just hope that changed him, but only time will tell.
nothing worse than a trespasser. people like that are just one step above a poacher and still 10 steps below the lowest piece of crap in the cow pasture. a helpful tip to that sheriff department should take care of the problem.
Call DNR and text him while the conservation officer is standing there with you. If he states he is going to continue, they have the evidence needed to proceed.
^x2 a while back I read a book called Poacher's Caught, its about a former MN conservation officer and all of his wacky run ins with turds like that. It's a good read, but one thing he stresses in the book is that actions like that are usually learned from a father/grandfather etc. Here in MN trespassing is only a $50 fine for the first offense, punks like that will probably pay the fine and shake it off as nothing. Hopefully that doesn't happen and the kid gets what he has coming to him!
We had the same border problem 2 years ago and turned it over to the Sheriff and Conservation Officers. Haven't had a problem since, but there's always tomorrow.
Trepassers deserve no breaks, give it to them and your problem will continue. Let them know you will be reporting them (and follow thru) and will have them charged as such. It only takes a few to end up in court before the word spreads you will not accept it. Only then will it go away. To me, it is no different then someone walking into your home without permission...its your property period.
I have talked to a good buddy of mine who is a county cop and he gave me some tips. Like I said its just tricky like I said because its a small town deal, we know who he is, my uncle knows his dad well and etc. Just an odd situation, I would have already took action if it were not for this. He told em to save the texts as well and said just be sure its posted and be able to verify you talked to him about property line. I will be notifying the DNR of this and at the bare minimum it will bring it to their attention and on their radar. If I need to proceed further I will have texts and any additional photos or texts.
Well here in texas we post all required warning signs on gates and no trespassing signs around the property to warn violaters. If they are not messing with anything call the sheriff but if they are doing something criminally mischeft warn them and give them a warning shot to follow. Excessive or deadly force is allowed if necessary and warranted. Basic overview little more in depth if you check laws. But you may not be from texas.
Make sure the property is posted by signs and tell him he is not welcome on your property. I would also call the local/county law enforcement and let them know what is going on.
Have you talk to him? I would grab him by the shoulder and take a walk and explain to (did you say his name was ****) the error of his ways. Really, sometimes people need to know who they are dealing with.
