I am looking to buy a new treestand, a climbing stand to be specific. I have researched many different ones, and still cannot decide. I like the Lone Wolf stands, but they are pretty expensive. I am willing to spend more if the LW is worth it. Give me some feedback on different stands.

I have a Summit Viper. As a climber in my opinion it can't be beat.

When you buy your choice of climber , if you have never used one before, make sure you try climbing several different trees to get used to how it works. also make sure a buddy is with you in case something happens. i bought my 1st one 8 or 9 yrs ago & had never used a climber b4. a buddy i hunt with alot told me to practice 1st & its a good thing i did. i got up about 15 or so when the bottom fell to the ground while i was still trying to go up. just a heads up.. also i would also invest in a safety harness . dont want any fellow hunters to get injured.. good luck with your search & future hunts!!!!

Give the Equalizer a look. I have one but use my Lone Wolf hang on most of the time. However when I do use the climber I am loving life as it is so much more comfortable than the hang on. Mine is the basic model without the gunrest bar or the backrest and I don't use their seat, I use a sling seat from Summit.

I have two and I only use one! I have a Summit Cobra and a Loggy Bayou and the one i use is Loggy Bayou! This is the second Loggy climber that I have owned and the seat is comfy and very easy to use. I really like them over the past 4 that I have owned from different brands!

Summit Goliath or Summit Viper are great choices.

Never had the money for a LW, I've messed with my share of the rest and now I currently use and Ol' Man. Comfort and stability. I'm hooked.

I have used a Summit for years and bought a Lone Wolf climber at the end of last season. Both stands have their pros and cons. I'll list them so that you have some info to help make your decision:

    Summit

    Pros
Hands down the most comfortable stand I've ever used
    Very stable climbing platform
    Rugged and long lasting
Parts and accessories always readily available

    Cons
Tubular aluminum very loud. Any contact with a hard object results in a metallic clank
Coating on cables wears out pretty quickly
Set up and climbing tend to be louder than I desire even with extreme effort to be quiet

    Lone Wolf

    Pros
The quietest treestand I've ever used both on stand and while climbing
    Rock solid once set up
Very well built-not enough time to determine durability yet
Parts and accessories always readily available

    Cons
    Price
Comfort-going from a Summit to LW there is a big difference in comfort
Climbing a little less stable due to the lightness of the seat

IMHO both are top-of-the-line stands and you can't go wrong with either. It will really come down to your priorities. As my hunting style has changed over the years I have found that my priorities have shifted to having quietness on set up and while on stand over having a cushy lounging seat.

Good review, I will be interested to see how LW fairs after moving their production. Anyone buy one yet?

Hey guys, lot of familiar names in these parts. :tu:

Great breakdown HuntingBry. I've hunted Summit Vipers and the LW alpha, but not climber. One thing I love about the Summit Viper (with the climbing bar in front) is it feels very safe and solid. I've had some scary experiences on a wet poorly installed loc-on (not the LW), but never in the Viper. It is pretty loud to tote around and attach to a new tree. I saw Summit had a new climber called the Switchblade in my new "Limited Edition" Cabela's master catalog. Looks a pound heavier, but says more packable.

Also, always make sure that you keep a rope tied between the top and bottom!

I hunt with a Lone Wolf hand climber and absolutely love it! I hunt almost exclusively public land and it does the trick. I also use the sticks and assault but if I am going back in heavy timber I try to take the climber. I wouldn't get the sit and climb. I was nervous when I first got the handclimber and then realized it is easy to use. I am moderate shape and 35 years old. Used to use a summit viper and wouldn't go back now.

I bought the Summit Ultimate Viper SS last year and I love it. IMO Summit is the way to go.
