Hi everyone i need some help again. I have this new property and i need to begin putting up stands in it. I have a buddy stand i can put up in there because i usually hunt off of bait but i feel like that stand is very big and bulky and may scare deer out of the area when i put it up. I was going to invest in some hang on stands which are very small an low key. Let me know what i should do thanks

I have one big stand I hunt from. I have it up all year. Mid to late summer I go through and check all straps (in my case it's chained on). They don't seem to notice it.

If you get your stands up early a big treestand won't scare deer. Think about how big box blinds are and deer walk right pass.

I'll add that you should try and get as much back cover as you can. It'll help it from sticking out.

Will putting it up on the new property change the way the deer move?

Perhaps at first but not long term. Depends on how pressured your deer are. They are a different animal this time of year and you can do stuff like this without affecting anything. Get your stand up and don't return till the day you hunt it.

They may avoid it for a little bit, but only because it's something new. As they get used to it being there, they won't pay it any attention and will go back to normal movement. Like Fitz said, make sure it has some cover around it

I went out and checked my ladder stand Saturday morning...haven't been there in a while. Anyway, there was a pile of deer poop on the ground literally 8' infront of the ladder. They become accustomed to it the longer it's there.

the deer wont scare if they are used to seeing it, think you go home every day and see your fridge so your used to it, if they walk past every day and see your stand then they dont care. just get it up nice and early

Deer are creatures of habit. Once they become accustomed to seeing any treestand they will ignore it. Personally, I don't feel comfortable in some of the smaller profile lock-on stands on the market. I HUNT HIGH (20-30 Feet). Some hunters think that a larger stand makes you more noticeable. I don't. A friend I hunt with some times is that way. One day we hunted doe in the same area together. After the hunt, he in his small lock-on and me in my larger lock-on, he made the comment that he had never seen anyone sit that still in a stand before. He said he never saw me move. Well, all because I was comfortable in my stand. He had to stand up from time to time and I never did.
Fitz is right; background cover is crucial in concealing your stand and yourself. It breaks up your pattern so you are nearly unrecognizable to deer. Until you move that is. Also, HUNT HIGH! This will help with you been easily recognized by the deer and it will also help with Scent Control.

I have one 2-man stand that's on a huge Oak, with low "branch-out". It breaks up the outline of the stand really well. I've killed quite a few deer from it.
